2006 Dodge Charger Logo
Posted on Sep 15, 2010

I have a 2006 dodge charger and I parked my car a the gas station to get gas and when I came back the shifter was stuck in park and wouldn't budge for nothing ! After an 1hr and 45min I decided to take it apart to see was anything jammed by popping the plastic around the shifter "off" and unscrewing the two screws located by the cigarette lighter ! Once everything was removed exposing the inside of the gears I noticed there was nothing jammed as I could see, but I did notice a wire coming from a white little tube and I pulled it at the same time shifting the gear and "the gears shifted" ! My questions are, 1.What could be the problem? 2.How to fix the problem? 3. Can I "myself" fix the problem? 4.How much is the cost to fix the problem?

Thats problem is a loose wire you can probably fix it with a little playing around it sounds like the wire is the wire that is recieving signal to release the shifter so check see if it is loose or disconnected and if you can reconnect it if take to shop around 100 bucks to fix it maybe 150 if sensor is broke or wire cant be salvaged

My 2006 dodge charger is stuck in park how do i repair it

When the car gets stuck in park it is due to the park lock system, the system will not release unless the brake lights are on so if you have no brake lights then the gear shifter will not move. Check the brake lights first.

I have a 2006 charger hemi, the gear stuck in park. How do I get it ou of park

its might have something to do with your brake lights. if the computer doesnt sense the brake lights come when u hit the pedal it wont release the car from park. to temporarily get your car out of park, remove the coin tray that on the side of the shifter, just give it a good tug, ull see a pink lever the console, just push the pink level while shifting the handle and you'll be good to good. fyi u only need to push that pink lever when shifting from park.

2009 dodge charger is stuck on an incline and will not come out of park

happens to me allot,it will go in gear but you will have to apply allot more pressure than normal to get it out of park, the steeper the incline the harder you will have to pull on gear shifter( you will almost think your going to break the shifter, but you wont) to keep it from happening next time, when you pull in and put in park before you let off brake pedal apply the emergency brake, and when you get back in car to leave, start and put in gear then release the emergency brake.....

There are a bunch of these shifters that are screwing things up. I would have it fixed and keep the reciepts. Dodge has been good about reimbursements after the repairs if they do a recall.
In other words Dodge may reimburse you if it becomes a recall later.

Shifter stuck in Park

I would recommend getting a service manual to eliminate the chance of snapping any console pieces. It's easier with picture, diagrams, and step by step instructions. Promanuals has full factory service manuals fairly cheap and they come complete, covering the entire car. No need to snap any console pieces in your nice ride. I'm looking through the manual now so I can post some steps for ya.

I have the same problem. If you take the casing apart that surrounds the shiffter you can push the little pink lever in with your finger and shift it that way. You have to do it from the front left of the shifter where the cable goes into the shifter. It is called the shifter control module. The overide button doesn't work with this problem. Dodge just told me a new shifter was $30 and the are on back order.

I cannot get the gear to shift down

check the brake lights, the shifter has a safety feature that will not allow u to shift out of park if your foot is not on the brake and the brake lights are working, if the brake lights are working there is a bypass to get it out of park under a little cover next to the shift handle.

2006 Dodge Charger stuck in Park.

10591.jpg In the event of an electrical failure, the vehicle can be shifted out of PARK by using the following procedure.
1. Turn the key to the ACC or ON position. 2. Remove the liner to the cubby bin to the right side of the shifter. 3. Depress the BTSI override (2) on the side of the shifter assembly (1). 4. While the override is depressed, move the shifter out of the PARK position. 5. Return the cubby bin liner to its original location.
