Unscrew the cap for the flow indicator, remove the 6 screws, the top will come off. When you put the top back on, make sure the piston is hooked on the smart mix knob(underneath the top cover) set the smart mix valve in the wtaer only setting, then put the top back on. Turn the smart mix valve to make sure it is turning like it should, then re-install the 6 screws and the flow indicator parts. (don't over tighten the screws)

Bissell Proheat 1699-5 won't spray, belt ok

Hi There,

It sounds like to me that this may be your pump. The newer ProHeat 2X models actually have a Silinoid problem right now which is more common then the pump going bad, but if you have the original ProHeat series, then it sounds lik you have a bad pump.

Here's a link to a very, very helpful repair guide directly from Bissell that will explain to you step by step how to trouble shoot, and replace the pump if needed. I would be lost on the ProHeat series without this handy repair guide.

I'm pretty knowledgable now on these machines, if you need some help or some clarification on how to repair this, please feel free to reply to this repair by using the Clarification request form. If you found this helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair, and give feedback.

Proheat pump key

No; the new pump has a metal pulley which is more durable then red plastic pulley. be sure to place a 3/4 thick x 10 inch long (small shelf works) piece of wood under housing before removing top.

Water will not come out to do floor work

HI, I have a very similar Bissell. My problem was that after unscrewing the top plate and looking at the pipes the pipes feeding the front sprays were full of gunge blocking the sprayheads. I managed to flush it through by carefully removing the T connector that feeds the front 2 pipes, placing it back so it stuck out of one of the holes and replacing the water tank and turning on while holding it over a bucket. Black and white bits came out but it did flush through. I am thinking of doing a youtube video - let me know if this will help you!
