Pri master hard disk s.m.a.r.t. status bad, backup and replace press del to resume

Hard drive is bad or is going to fail soon.

Solution

Backup your information and contact the maunufacturer of the computer or the hard drive for replacement or additional help.

In some very rare cases the S.M.A.R.T. implementation on your computer may have issues of its own and may need to be patched before replacing the hard drive.

If I am receiving the S.M.A.R.T. error, is it ok if I continue to use my hard drive and do not replace it?

As stated above, S.M.A.R.T. is designed to detect upcoming failures in the hard drive.

While it is possible that the hard drive may not fail for several months, it is still inevitable that the hard drive will fail.

It is ok to continue to use the hard drive, however, we highly recommend that if you are still under warranty that you consider getting the drive replaced before your warranty runs out.

hope this helps

Disconnecting when copying large files (about 1gb and above)

that means it there are bad sectors on the hard drive. search for Hirens utility boot disk with google and and download the software. After you downloaded it you will have to write the files to a cd. Then boot up with the disc and select Hard drive tools or HDD tools, then select hard drive re-generator to detect and repair bad sectors if there are over 500 bad sectors then replace the drive.

The hard drive is bad I need to replace this one for my Dell Laptop. Any suggestions

you are stuck getting a Dell replacement part for the laptop. It is the only way to be sure of getting the correct part. the Dell Service manuals are an excellent source for explaining how to remove the existing hard drive and replacing it.
Are you sure the disc is bad?

The hard disk data base will be rebuilt. AN error occured during the rebuild. The disk must eb formated

Sounds like there are bad sectors on the hard drive. Try quick formatting the hard drive and see if it goes all the way thru, if it does then try saving games on it and reloading the saved games, if it does then the hard drive is good. If it doesnt then the hard drive is bad. If you can't get the hard drive to format then that means the hard drive is bad and you would need to replace it.

Smart drive failed during diagnostic test

Bad sectors are starting to show up on the hard drive. Thats what the smartdrive program is for, its checks the hard drive to see if there are any bad spots or potential bad spots on the platter inside of the hard drive.

It will definitely have to be replaced. Replace it with a new one and if you can't then at least replace it with a known good used one.

Well the replacement drive should be the same interface. i.e. if its an IDE drive then you'll need an IDE drive if its a SATA drive you'll need a SATA drive! regards, babb
