If the oven is still heating, but the carousel isn't turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft, turntable ring or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace the motor:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you may need.

The average price for a motor is about $35 to $45. If your model number is not listed at all the sites, use the part numbers from the Sears site and use them for your search criteria. The model numbers don't always cross reference, but the part numbers do. If you need assistance identifying the correct part number, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and I can assist you. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Even though the carousel may not be turning, you can still use the microwave while awaiting parts. You will need to physically rotate whatever you are heating about midway through the cook time to ensure even heating. Early model microwave ovens were not equipped with a rotating carousel and this was the common routine.

My turntable doesn't turn

Sounds like the turntable drive coupling is broken. In the bottom of the microwave where your turntable is, underneath that is a small drive coupling that the motor shaft pushes into. if the motor doesn't turn or the coupling, which commonly has a D shape shaft to keep it from slipping, is broken, the tray will not turn. One quick test it to remove your tray and see if you can turn the coupling easily by hand, if you can you probably have a broken drive coupling. The turntable motor is very difficult to turn by its shaft. so if it turns easily it is probably a broke coupling. NEVER force your turntable around by hand or you can break that coupling.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the microwave turntable doesn't turn and the touchpad has a button to turn the turntable on and off the touchpad might be defective. Check the turntable motor first, that is more likely.

How do i turn the turntable off?

You dont.
You can use spacers(nonmetalic of course) to raise the platter high enough to disenguage the drive. You can also shift the tray to one side on some models.

Turntable won't turn

The turntable probably isn't on the spinny thing and that is what makes it turn- try lifting it up and putting it back on.

Microwave turntable won't turn

You may have a tunrtable motor or spindle problem..
This info is from GE website..( link : http://genet.geappliances.com/geasearch/Dispatcher?REQUEST=GETSEARCHRESULT

To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Make sure the turntable is centered and seated properly. On models with a stirrer motor there is a shaft protruding up through the floor of the microwave. Make sure the turntable is securely fastened to this shaft. On models that turn on a ring with wheels attached, make sure the turntable is seated securely on the ring.
  • Check the turntable to make sure it is placed right side up. If the turntable plate is upside down it will drag on the floor of the microwave.
  • Check to make sure that there is no food or debris under the "wheels" of the turntable ring. Food can prevent the wheels from moving forward.
  • Be certain you are pressing a cook function rather than a timer function.
  • If the microwave has a turntable on/off feature make sure the turntable was not inadvertently turned off. Try depressing the turntable on/off pad to re-engage the turntable.
