Tape player will not play, but FF and REW work, as well as counter. model: Onkyo Integra TA2066

This unit uses a Sankyo type transport and after all these years and functions the feedback contacts may have become tarnished or the worm gear motor may have developed a dead spot. If you take the cover off the unit the first thing is to get a burnishing tool and work on the copper leaf contacts to see if that is it. This can be done with the power off. Then test the unit to see if that worm gear cam system will rotate. If not then the next course of action is to replace the cam motor as it has a dead spot on the commutator. You can confirm this condition by taking a small ***** driver and turning the worm gear quarter turn. Then try some play functions. If it works that is the problem. You will need to get a new motor and replace this- it is very involved and not an easy part to find and so a Technical person is better off doing this. If it does not move then it could be that the drive circuit is having trouble in either the supply or the drive transistors.
You will need to measure voltage in each direction it is suppose to turn. If it does not then on to the circuit board for the drive transistors.

The VCR accepts the tape and starts to play; then stops and shuts off; when you turn the power back on the tape ejects

You have a transport problem, the mechanism the plays, FF or rewinds is not working.

Someone is going to have to open and look at the unit---as simple as a belt off or broken to the idler (rubber or geared) that doe the actual work, finding a shop that will work on a VCR unit is getting hard as most of the current techs have never seen this type of unit.

What I used to do when I opened one was have a old cassette with the tape removed! but the reels inside of it still there--tape off both sides of the cassette where it opens so the sensors on either side do not try to stop the unit from allowing this.

This way with the unit open and the dummy cassette in you can see thru its top to see if the reels are moving or not and not have the tape get in the way.

I've a Mitsubishi HS-U770 that has not been used for several years. When I tried to use it today, the tape loaded but would not play, rewind, or fast forward (I hear what sounds like gears slipping). The...

Mine did that, and when I opened it I found that a small drive belt (visible from the bottom with the cover removed) had deteriorated into goo. This unit had been in storage a while and the rubber just deteriorated, I guess. The trouble is that now I cant tell what size it is, or what length. I think this belt drives the mechanism that loads the tape in and out, and the rest of the mechanism is triggered by the tape cassette moving into position. Since it cant get loaded properly, the rest of the machine doesnt work right, either.

Tape ejects when put it in. Will not play record rewind etc. It just immediately ejects.

Check the timing of the gears. they tend to slip.
Find the loading motor. It should look like a big battery with a worm gear on the side. manually turn the gear backwards and forwards a few times. Hope this gets you watching tapes! GOOD LUCK!

I turn it on to play for a few seconds then it stops. I think that the menu is set accordingly to play and record also.

Remove the top cover & have a look at the tape when it is in the play mode. Is the tape spilling on the right hand side? In other words there is no take up & the VCR will stop. This can be caused by either the belt or the clutch gear mechanism not turning the take up spool (it will depend on the model of VCR you have) either would best to be replaced.

My VHS tape is also stuck--tapping didn't help

does ur vcr have a idler wheel or gears (between both spindles?) if its an idler wheel, with rubber band it commonly can go bad. their a pain. unfortunately there may not be a replacemant part. if nopt, inspect the belt for cracks or glazing. it needs friction to spin the spindle to take up the tape being played. or if ejecting, to wind the tape back in the cassete. take off the cover of vcr and watch. if the right side wheel of tape is not turning while playing, theres ur problem. the tape is instead floating every whichway. another possibility could be a belt on the right spindle. if any bands need replacing, use an ordinary rubber band ,. should work just as good

VCR tape won't eject

you should take the bottom off and you will see a gear with a belt around it try to turn it the same direction as when it is turned off, do not force it but it may need a little force to move the wheel.

Teac A-21 Stereo Cassette Tape Deck turns un, but won't play cassette tapes...

very likely that the drive belt has broken. I have fixed a TEAC myself using a large O-Ring from a hardware store (I know I was lucky to find a very close match). Open the unit and find the broken belt and take it to a hardware store to "size up" a replacement. Use the opportunity to oil the gear shafts and clean the rubber pinch roller.

Tape deck not working

Possibly a slipping rubber belt in the tape unit drive is not gripping enough to complete an action and so is just stopping everything from happening until it completes that action. You might try GENTLY helping the belt complete its action.
