The voice may not be deleted. The procedure below gives describes the steps to get the voice back even if it's deleted.
1. Press the Volume (Speaker symbol) in the bottom right corner and check that the mute box is not ticked. If it is press it and it will be ok. Also check that the volume isn't fully down.
If that doesn't solve the problem it may be because the voice file is not selected or has become corrupted or deleted.

2. Press Tools, then press Settings (or Locale on some models), then press Language. You will see a bar for Voice. Press Voice and select a different voice. If this doesn't solve the problem it's most likely because the voice file has become corrupted or been deleted. To replace the corrupted/deleted file.
3. Download webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and connect your satnav to your computer. Install webupdater and your satnav will look for updates. After it's finished it will give you an option to download voices. Click the ones you want and press next. The voices selected will be downloaded to your satnav.
When you have removed the satnav from the computer you'll need to select a voice again as described in para 2 above.

Use the Garmin Express program from Garmin. Down load and install the program, then connect your GPS to your PC. The program will allow you to install map and software updates.

My nuvi 200 is 3 years old suddenly speaking in what sounds like German instead of English. I have tried to reset but no joy

1. To select an English speaking voice
  • Press TOOLS (The spanner icon on the bottom right corner of the page showing WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  • Press SETTINGS (Top left icon)
  • Press LANGUAGE
This brings you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice.

2. Since it changed itself it's possible that the English voice file is corrupted and may need to be replaced. To replace a voice file you first need to;

  • Download and install the latest version of WEBUPDATER to your computer from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
  • Connect your satnav to the computer and run the Webupdater program
  • Webupdater will search for updates to your satnav operating system. Accept any updates it finds and they will be installed. When the update is complete it will offer you optional updates including VOICE FILES.
  • Tick the English speaking voice files you want to select them and click "continue" or "next" They will be downloaded to your satnav.
  • You then need to repeat the process described in paragraph 1 above to select an English speaking voice.

I cant seem to get turn by turn street anouncement on my garmin 1310 is there something i need to do on my menu. many thanks

Press TOOLS ( the spanner symbol on the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol)
Press LANGUAGE (The lips icon)
Press VOICE. Select a voice from an English speaking country that ends in TTS. The TTS letters stand for "Text to Speech" and indicates that this voice will name the streets. Some of the voices are more basic and are unable to.

If you don't have a TTS voice on the satnav you can download them. Install WEBUPDATER on your computer from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
When it's installed connect your satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead and run the WEBUPDATER program. The program will look for updates to your satnav software. Install the updates and when it's finished it will look for optional updates includingn Voices. Select only English speaking voices with tts added to the end of the names and download them.

When the download is complete and you've disconnected your satnav from the computer you'll need to select a tts voice as described in the first paragraph above.

Garmin C510 wont install download Europe maps to Unit

Take a look at the Garmin support page - there is a Question " Why do I get a not enough space message on my Nuvi2xx when trying to update my mapping?"
It tells you how to remove the unused voice files to free up space.
I have a Nuvi 255WT and deleting the voice files alone was not enough, so I set about removing a lot of other stuff *** NOTE THAT IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT I DID, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK **** it worked for me but there is always the risk of deleting a file that the device needs.
Also I was stupid and didn't try and save the files to a directory on my MAC before deleting them, from the satnav - worth a try so that if you can do that you have a chance of recovering one that you delete if you want it back.
First I also removed the un-needed text files - leaving only the 3 British-English files
Then I removed all of the POI files that were clearly examples/samples
Then I removed all of the Vehicle files except the one I was using
Then I removed all of the large ExtData files - now that was the one that caused me the most worry as I wasn't certain what they were there for!
This gave me a bit over 140Mbyte of free space which was enough to install the 2010 update for all of Europe.
Now I don't know whether the C510 has the same amount/less/more memory than the 255WT - so this may or may not work for you.
I didn't have an SD card available, which is why I went this far. I am going to get one and see if I can find out how to load the maps onto that.
cheers - Jeremy

My Garmin Nuvi 350 sound not working

I had this problem with the 760. Solved by going to settings>language and discovering I had no choice for "voice". I pressed that selection and picked american english and my problem was solved. Garmin support said sometimes the program gets corrupted and that choice needs to be made again.

Deleted voice

Hello Sallilou,

If you deleted the voice files without backing them up you can try running the Garmin WebUpdater software. This program updates the operating software for your GPS and can be used to update maps and other files. It may be possible to reinstall the voice files using WebUpdater. (To download the WebUpdater software go here.)

Some of the Garmin products do have voice files available for download via the Garmin website. (Namely the Quest product.) However the Nuvi 200W does not appear to have such files immediately available for download.

If you aren't able to update the voice files this way I would suggest you give Garmin a call directly.

Best Regards,
Ken

Very easy to fix the problem. When you plug in the Garmin Nuvi 200 to your computer, two drives will show up . Go to the Garmin drive and click on voice file, delete all the languages except for the one you want to use (i.e. American USA), this will give you all the 37 Megs you need to download 2009 maps. Takes a while to download using the web updater that you need to download into your computer from Garmin, but I had no problems.
