Wii LED Green, but no Startup on screen. Cannot power off either.

The LED on my brother's wii turns green when you press it, but the console doesn't startup; the screen stays black. Pressing the power button once its green won't power it off either. I plugged in my wii right next to his using the exact same cables and setup his was using and mine works, so its not the cables.

When trying to sync remotes with my brother's wii they won't sync so I can't tell if there is an audio/video issue since I can't reach the menu screen.

We played on his wii last night so I really don't understand what is wrong. He has owned it for over a year now.

last night we played the wii just fine; today nothing! turned on manually, light green but no signal to tv. then can't turn system off, even manually, light stays green. tried unplugging cables from tv and replugging them at different site; still no response. the only way to turn system off is to unplug from power source and re plugging to power, then system shows red/off. the whole thing starts over again however, and no signal has been had :(

played wii just fine last night. today no signal. green light is on but it doesn't mean go. won't shut off even manually. i tried unplugging everything, even switching cables from one location to another, no go. the only thing which did help was unplugging from power source to shut off green light. relugging it set it back to red light/off and the whole process begins again. still no signal on tv; screen stays black and no wii...waa :(

just purchased wii fit and now noone can play.

  • hooklake Jul 13, 2008

I just purchased the wii fit.  Now I have the same problem.  The wii always turned on fine before.  Now it is very inconsistent.  I turn it on and it shows the green button, but there is no signal on tv.  After unplugging it and plugging it back in about 7 times waiting and talking to it, it finally starts up again by luck.  Why oh why?

same problem as others have reported.  Wii green power light on, disc accepted, screen blank, unable to power off using buttons.  When AC plug removed and put back in, works fine (even with disc still in).  This happens to us with MarioKart as well as Rock Band

I was surfing the Internet channel looking up movie listings and my system froze. The pointer wouldn't respond and I couldn't turn it off using the Wiimote. I held the power until the system completely shut down and then when I powered it on again, the LED went green but no picture (not even the initial 'warning' screen). The Wiimotes just flash and don't appear to have any connectivity. I unplugged everything from everywhere for about 15-20mins but no luck. Unless someone has any other suggestions, I'll unplug it overnight and call Nintendo tomorrow.

I have had this problem for months, turn wii on green led light comes on, black screen on tv, sometimes you hear the drive spinning, you click buttons on the wiimote and they just blink a few times and nothing else happens, if I turn it off and on and off and on like 50 times sometimes it takes like 45 minutes it will work...but you should not have to do this

Just spoke to Nintendo Technical support.  Seems the rub is in the AC adapter itself.
Need to power down at both ends of the AC adapter--unplug AC adapter from wall output AS WELL AS from back of Wii.
Wait at least two minutes to allow any charge in the adapter itself to dissapate.  Plug adapter into wall first, then back into the Wii, making sure your peripherals (eg AV receiver, TV, projector if using) are already on.
Tech support says sometimes you get a partially tripped "fuse" within the AC adapter itself.
This seems to have worked for now--will let the forum know if further problems

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2009

Over the past several months, I have noted the following additional issue:

If you have your Wii audio output plugged into an AV receiver (mine is a newer Yamaha) and the AV receiver is turned on before the Wii is, sometimes the Wii won't power up (green light comes on, no video output/black screen).

Turning on the Wii before turning on any peripheral device attached to the Wii eliminates the problem.

I do not know if the same applies to Wiis plugged directly into the Tv, but I suppose if the stereo audio channel of the TV is sending some signal back to the Wii, perhaps the Wii may fail to power up (green light, black screen behavior).

My current setup is Wii audio via stereo into Yamaha RX series receiver, Wii video out via component to an LCD projector. AV cables are pretty well shielded but about 35 feet long.

This may or may not be a Wii firmware issue; my Wii is about 10 months old.

Its bricked, means broken. If it was soft-modded, you could be fine. You have to hold the button to turn it off because bricked Wiis won't support WiiConnect24 anyways...

SOURCE: LED turns green, but console doesn't start up

hum........ that is weird I'm not really sure how to fix that. But make sure all the cable from the wii are plugged in properly. For example: the red, yellow and white cables may look like they are plugged in but sometimes you have to push them in really hard to get them to work.

My wii does that sometimes in the middle of a game it just goes black so I just have to walk up to the TV and make sure they are im properly.

The Wii console light will turn green

Hi sharonkayh,

Try the following:

1) Completely power down your system by pressing the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, unplug the AC Adapter from the Wii for a moment, then plug it back in.

2) Make sure your Wii console has the most current Wii system menu. Download the latest update, and then test your Wii console to determine if the problem has been resolved.

This is done by:
  1. Make sure your Wii console is successfully connected online.
  2. Access the Wii System Settings.
  3. Click on the blue arrow twice to reach the Wii System Settings 3 menu options.
  4. Select "Wii System Update" and press the A Button.
  5. Select "Yes," and read any messaging regarding obtaining the update. If you agree to the messaging, select "I Accept."
  6. The Wii console will now search for the latest Wii System Update.
  7. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically.

I hope this can help you - Source: Nintendo Website.

Kind Regards

After pressing the red sync button on the console for about 10-15 seconds, and syncronizing the remote, the remote stars to work, but when I start a game the remote is no longer working. Then when I...

There are two ways to sync the Wii remote with the Wii console after pressing the red sync button like you did:

1) Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii remote until the lights begin to flash. This method provides a temporary connection to the Wii.
2) Open the battery cover on the Wii remote and press the red button next to the batteries. This creates a permanent connection or "pair" between the Wii remote and the Wii console.
Based on your description, it sounds like you are using method #1. In order to power on the Wii when the Wii's red light is on (meaning the machine is turned off) and start playing games like you want, method #2 must be used.
Imagine method #1 as "guest mode". If a friend comes over with their Wii remote and wants to play a game, you would open up the game first, use method #1, and your friend would temporarily be connected to the Wii. Using method #1 is like "owner mode" that lets the Wii remote turn the console on and off and always stay connected to it.
Hope this helps!

I turn on the wii and the green LED comes but Black Screen

Assuming you did not tamper with the system (mod it to play burnt games) then that is usually caused by the BlueTooth module not working.

If it's under warranty then send it back to Nintendo. They are very quick and very good.

If it's not, you could try replacing the Bluetooth module yourself. I get mine from http://parts.consolerepairguy.com for about $22. I fix consoles so I know that is usually the cause.

Good luck!

Power is on but screen is black

I found this [temporary] solution at http://www.wiierror.com/wii-black-screen.php:

(via email, thanks Steven) This happened to me once, but I fixed it. Here is how:
Eject the disk
Unplug the wii at the back
Wait 1 minute
Plug it back in
Turn it on from the remote
Press reset if it does not show up
Hold the power button to shut it off
Turn it on once more.
I don't know how, but it seemed to work for me. The problem happened when I was trying to load the Mii channel. Hope this helps !

(via email, thanks Andrew)
The first time I shut down my Wii, the light went orange (as it should). When I turned on the power with my wii remote the next day, the wii\'s light turned green but the screen was black.
The treatment was the same as from Black Screen, No Connection: Unplug the Wii\'s power supply unit, then replug; turn system on with wii remote.
The difference is: this problem can strike in more places than just by loading the Mii Channel. Also, I think the green light being on (yet there being a black screen) is a common symptom as well.
