The 4 wire cord will connect as follows.
Red and Black wires connect to the 2 outside terminals on the back of the dryer.
The White wire connects to the center terminal.
The Green wire connects to the grounding screw just outside the terminal cover on the rear of the machine.

Dryer Bosch WTA3510us/10 - I'm replacing the 3 prong plug with a 4 prong, to match the wall outlet in our new house. I can't tell where the old ground is connected inside the dryer wiring box. See...

https://fredsappliance.com/service/3-prong-vs-4-prong-dryer-outlets-whats-the-difference/

See above video as a reference.

Note during installation of 4 wire cable the removal of the neutral/frame bonding wire and its relocation (stowed) with the neutral lug. Yours is missing the neutral/frame bond wire but thats ok since it will not be needed for 4 wire.

First things first. You need to get the terminal block put back in its proper location. The 3 wire cable must not have been properly clamped allowing the terminal block to be pulled from its mount. See following pic. Snap it back into place. Replace the cable clamp if failing.

Your 4 wire connections are as follows. I drew as individual wires for clarity only. Your 4 wire cable(sheath) must be inserted and retained by the cable clamp. If cable clamp is not functional you must replace the clamp before continuing.

I have a three prong plug washer/dryer but a 4 prong outlet need an adapter

YOU DONT ADAPT IT, U REPLACE THE RECEPTACLE OR USE THE CORRECT PRONG CORD. THE CORDS ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE FROM 20 TO 30 BUCKS AND EVEN CHEAPER ON LINE. IF U HAVE A NEWER HOME IT IS MANDATED BY LAW THAT YOU USE 4 PRONG CORD NOT 3 PRONG UNLESS THE HOME CAME WITH A 3 PRONG OUTLET.

I have a Frigidaire FAFS4473LW Steam Washer- 3 prong. I moved into a new place with a 4 prong. Do I need a 4 prong cord, or can I change the 4 prong adapter on the wall?

Hi nancy huerta...

You can change the cord or the receptical...
It will be easier to change the cord...
Purchase a four prong plug cord that will fit into your receptical, then wire your dryer for 4 wire instead of three wire use.
To see a picture and explanation of how to wire your dryer for a 4 wire plug go to the following webpage.

Change cord on estate whirlpool dryer to fit outlet in wall

If this is an ELECTRIC dryer, the following link explains how to install either a 3-prong or 4-prong power cord:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

If this is a GAS dryer, the standard color code for a three prong grounded plug is:

BLACK - HOT
WHITE - NEUTRAL
GREEN - GROUND

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Our whirlpool Duet dryer has three prong plug and home has four prong outlet. Do we change the cord or the outlet?

You should change the plug at the wall. From your description, your dryer plug has two hot wires and a ground.

Your existing plug probably has 4 wires to it - two hots (120 volts each), a neutral (white), and a ground (green). The two hots are probably black or black and some other color.

You will need to match the plug on your dryer cord with the plug at the wall. The type of plug required should be described in your owner's manual. If you don't have that, then take a digital picture of the plug on the cord of your dryer and bring it to your local hardware or home improvement store. They should be able to match the companion wall plug for you.

Make sure the power is off (important). Remove the existing wall plug. When you wire it back up - this time with only three wires, connect the two hots (black and some other color) to the two hot prongs (terminals) and the green wire to the ground prong. Put a wire nut on the end of the white wire and tuck it back into the connection box. That's it. Turn the power back on and test for proper voltage and wiring configuration at the wall plug before you plug the dryer back in.

If you aren't familiar or comfortable with working on electrical apparatus, you should have a licensed electrician do this work for you. This solution also assumes you are in the USA.

Purchase a 3 prong dryer cord. It is simpler and safer than changing the wall outlet.

Conect 4 wires to 3 wires box in the wall

These two pictures illustrate the power wiring on a the terminal of an electric dryer. The one to the left here is the old-style three-wire configuration. Most people have this type in their homes. New code changes, though, require that dryers now have a four-wire cord, shown to the right. These are just just thumbnail pictures that you can click for a larger view. But I'll bet you already figured that out, didn't you?
Besides the number of wires in each cord, there are two important things to notice. First, in the four-wire configuration, notice that the dryer's grounding strap is folded back on itself. The whole point of the four-wire cord is to separate the ground from the neutral. The green wire (the "new" extra wire in the four-wire cord) is attached to the dryer cabinet. In the three-wire configuration, the grounding strap is left intact and the neutral and ground are tied together.
tn_3prong_dryer_outlet.jpgtn_4prong_dryer_outlet.jpgIf you need to re-wire the outlet, these pictures will explain the anatomy of the three-prong (left) and four-prong (right) outlets. Once again, these pictures are just thumbnails--click 'em for a larger view.

Sure hope this helps you find a resolution to your delimma! Best wishes.
