I need a way to play dvd's from China. My wife brought her english training dvd's from china but we can not use them on a region 1 dvd. My dvd drive is a matshita DVD +- RW UJ890

Hi, you are partly correct, your region 1 player is also in NTSC format, other regions are in PAL format...... So even if you converted your player to multi region or bought a multi region player it still would not play a PAL disk which the Chinese disks would be! The only way you could do this is to buy a multi region PAL/NTSC format DVD player.

My toshiba L645D wont recognize that some DVD's are in the player while other DVD's it sees an plays. its newer dvd's like Madea's Witness Protection an Battle Los Angeles(for example)it wont see but...

It could be due to a regional issue or related to the type of format.

Regional codes are software lockouts; to deter copyright infringements and piracy issues.

Two basic formats are PAL and NTSC and they are not compatible with each other. For example, a DVD sold in a country that uses the PAL video standard (like England) will not play in a player designed with the NTSC format; Unless of course you have a DVD player that is compatible with both video formats.

Then there's the possibility that the media itself is damaged with a permanent scratch.

If you own an older model DVD player that doesn't support write/re-write discs, that can be an issue as well.

If the format of the recording is a wmv or AVI extension type, unless they are converted to your player's readable format- the movie will not play.

So check the media type you are attempting to play to the type your DVD player will read.

Hope this helps ~ best regards.

How to unblock region code block of sony bdv-e770w?

It's already Region Free when purchased.

  • A+B+C Multi Zone Region Code Free Blu Ray Player DVD Region 123456 PAL/NTSC

  • PAL or MULTI-SYSTEM TV is required to watch PAL DVDs. If your TV was purchased in North America (NTSC) you will also need a Video Scaler Full HD 1080p.

When you insert a dvd it says PAL DISK

PAL is the format of the dvd and there are two main formats for a dvd and they are PAL or NTSC. The NTSC format is mostly used for the United States, and the PAL format is used more in Europe and Asia. An older dvd player will have the format options in the setup menu for the dvd player, and from the setup menu on the tv screen the dvd player can be set to play the PAL dvd's. However if that is not the problem and the dvd player no longer can tell a PAL from a NTSC format then the dvd player either needs a serious lens cleaning or it has a malfunction. Also, the back of the cover for the dvd should say if it is PAL or NTSC.

DVD Player NTSC / PAL inter-compatibility

    Hi,

    Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Emerson brand is not readily available in my country and therefore we have limited exposure to their various products. Although from what I was made to understand, more often than not, Emerson units are specifically manufactured for the US market and therefore would have limited or no multi region capability. Sorry. Although normally, the NTSC/PAL feature (if ever available) would be clearly marked in the box or in the manual or as a sticker on the unit itself.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Only black and white

If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts
    both PAL and NTSC formats)
