I need to locate a "reel to reel tape deck repair service" in the Washington DC/Baltimore Maryland area. The deck is a "Dual, model # TG 28". Do you know of any service providers?

That is; supply wheel turns, and take-up wheel doesn't. Isn't it? The tape deck mechanism fault. Should be a broken belt [loading belt] can cause this. Check for it.

I have a friend who needs a Repair facility for a Tascam 48 OB reel to reel deck in the Metro D.C. area. 20740 zip code

The repair of this will require the inspection of the deck by an experienced Technician of whom I would suggest be Russ Bachmann at New Jersey Factory Service. I would look at it myself but I am in the Chicago area. Shipping most often pushes reel tables in and the brake band usually is not damaged at all. There could be the problem with sticky tape- if you have 406 or 456 and the tape path is accumulating a brown residue that is the problem not the machine.

FF problem on Teac Reel to Reel

You need new brake pads installed as the ones in there now are dried up and may have fallen off. This is very common with older decks or 30-40 years old.
I am still working on these decks at Skywave Tape Deck Repair in the Chicago area.

Ebay is the worse place to get belts- why do I know this? Well, as a servicer I am constantly replacing belts that are from E bay when clients can not get their decks to work with those wrong belts. While the counter belt is not critical the capstan belts are in a dual capstan system. The 32-2B is a X10 derivative so it will need proper servicing to work well. I am in the Chicago area and work on decks all the time as Skywave Tape Deck Repair just google it.

A 303 cassette deck - the belt has been changed. The feed spool and capstan turn fine. The take up spool does not turn and play stops after 5 sec. Take up spool is fine in fast forward. Help !

This is a case of a failing reel motor. What happens i sthe brushes become aged and wear down and the motor has what they call a dead spot on the Commutator. The motor will work fine at high speeds as the inertia is working for it but when you use a slow speed as in play mode the motor hits the dead spot and stops. You will need a new reel motor in the most likely case- I can service the deck if you want at Skywave Tape Deck Repair Chicago area. I will most likely put a new motor into the deck.
