Insignia NS-LCD42HD 2+ years old - color problem (getting lots of green, both composite and hdmi) - had been VERY happy with picture quality. Question should I repair or replace? (have done computer repair Navy and UNISYS - major problem with most consumer products is getting case open)

Yes, that is correct you need composite (or coax) cabling to your TV. The unit cannot carry the VHS signal via component video or digital audio cabling
