Magnavox 19PRC1 My set has lost its horizontal controls. I get great sound but just lines most of the time. Sometimes, for a few seconds, I actually get a picture, but most of the time just scrolling lines. There's no controls on the back and no visible way to get into the Tv.

White horizontal line then the unit automatically shuts off with a led blinking on the front panel is an indication of faulty vertical deflection circuitry.
The most common faulty parts is the vertical deflection IC (TDA9302H) itself. This IC is mounted on the aluminum heat sink near the flyback transformer. You have to replaced it with new one to resolve the issue. Click HERE to have an idea how much it will cost for the parts.

sometimes a leaky primary line filter could caused this type of defect,have a qualified technician for servicing

You either have a cold solder joint in your horizontal deflection circuits or your or in your horizontal output circuit. please be careful due to the fly-back transformer still holds power even unplugged until you discharge it.( ground it out). Hope this helps.

hi i have a 50" magnavox that has a problem, i was looking at several websites and i find out the dirfferent posibilities.
in your case i have 2 posibble answers.
1) negative image
tv turns on and shots down in 2sec
flashing pixels on screen
dark image
has sound but no video
screen goes black and then return to normal picture
vertical color lines on screen no video
vertical color lines with video
vertical bars on screen
horizontal lines on the image
picture goes red after while
IT COLUD BE (X or Y or Z SUSTAIN BOARDS )

2) just left part of screen working
just right part of the screen is working
vertical and horizontal lines on screen
part of screen not working
some functions not working
no video but has sound
functions not working at all
IT COULD BE (LOGIC CONTROL BOARD)

it sounds like a dry joint,where the solder cracks if you tap it on the side and it alters its state then you have to locate this cracked solder and re solder,sometimes not visible though

Failure in the vertical deflection amplifier section. This is usualy from failed components, and sometimes cold solder connections. Most of the time, I found bad capacitors, and sometimes the output IC or transistors (depending on the model type) that have failed.

Take the set to a service center for an estimate. You may find it more feasible to buy a new set depending on the parts that failed and the time involved to do the work.

Lines on screens are usually caused by damage to the ribbons on the actual screen face itself (something only a few professional lcd repair shops can repair).
Sometimes caused by a bump, other times from over-wetting when cleaning, or dampness/moisture issues
The inverter-power board does Not control picture, It just controls the backlight bulbs and powering the video board.
Picture is powered from the video display board.

There aren't any adjustments anymore. This can happen as parts inside age and values change. Also solder connections can fail over time and cause problems. The problem you describe can be in any of several areas of the set. There really isn't anything you can do yourself to repair this. If you want to keep the TV you can get an estimate for repair, but this might be a good time to check out sale prices on new TV's and think about replacing it.

This denotes a problem called blooming the horizontal lines you see are called retrace lines this is caused by the increase in anode voltage which could be caused by an increase in HV section current which trips the overcurrent protection dircuit and turns the TV off.If you do not have electronics experience I would suggest taking the set to a TV repair shop.
