I have the same problem. Are you copying an analog source? (tape?) Even though the "0 db" level is activated, (button on upper right on front panel) the level rises to -12...max. I suspect the auto-level is preset at the factory? Even with an EQ boost there is no level increase. Drives me nuts! Must have to recalibrate it; but I've no idea how...
Just a follow-up. I came across a CD from way back and noticed the AAD designation. Bingo! If your source material is analog, then the record level will be lower than digital. (remember tape to tape dolby levels? Same for cd transfer in those days. I set my EQ at +4 db across the board and proceed accordingly. Only drawback is the sound level if playing with ADD or DDD formats. Still, they sound right and the dynamic range is better tha the heavily compressed new ones.
