I downloaded Norton 360 version 2 on my friends computer. She has dial up so it took forever. When she turns the computer on, a message from the lower tool bar says she is not protected. I clicked on that and it said that Norton 360 may need an upgrade. I had just downloaded it and didn't understand that but I clicked on that and ever since the hard drive keeps shutting down and starting back up. Right after it boots back up, I have about 1 minute to try to do something before it shuts down again. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

Download the latest version of Norton 360 from the link www.norton.com/n360 on your wife's computer. Double click the downloaded icon once the download is complete follow the simple installation steps to install the latest version of the Norton product.
Please check if the spam folder by Norton is present on your Outlook
If that is not there, you will need to re-install the program
To reinstall, follow the simple steps: >> download the latest version of Norton 360 from the link www.norton.com/n360s_5 >> save the file to your desktop >> double click the downloaded icon >> it will remove the existing version and also restart your computer >> after the reboot, the installer will automatically pop up or you just double click on it again. >> that will install the latest version onto your computer >> recheck if the spam folder is there and and all the spam messages are being moved to it
**please note that there are two version of Norton 360, Standard edition and Premier edition. I have given the link to download the standard edition. Just in case if your Norton 360 is a Premier one, you need to use the link www.norton.com/n360p_5. They have different product keys and you cannot activate a Standard edition with the product key of Premier one.
You can download a 30 day trial version of Norton 360 version 5 from the link www.norton.com/n360s_5 Once the installation is complete, you can activate the program with the product key if you have one.
After downloading Norton 360 double click on the installation file and follow on screen instruction to install the file. Click on skip if it ask for product key. After installing Norton 360 open Norton 360 and click on live Update to download latest virus definition on to your computer. This will helps norton to find and heal the up to date virus.
After running live update perform complete system scan using Norton.
Note:
Uninstall existing Antivirus on your computer before installing Norton 360.
Your system performance will be little low for about 7 to 10 days after installing Norton, after this period it will become Normal.
This is trial version which will provide you 30 days validity but even 1 year subscription does the same task. You can install whatever antivirus if you wish to switch over.
Norton 360 is very user unfriendly. You may have to call the 800 number or do a live chat to get Norton 360 reinstalled correctly. This is what happened to a friend of mine. It took hours. Alternatively, go to www.filehippo.com and download Avast; it is as good or better at securing your PC. After installing it, Avast gives you the option of registering the product as a free version for a year. Next year, you will probably be able to re-register it free for another year. Avast works very well with Windows Firewall and protects me when I do dangerous things on the Internet.
1. You can use a friend computer and USB hard drive and download the backup data from Norton 360 site. Depending on the capacity of the driver you can possibly download all you have stored on the site.

since you have the product key nothing to worry. after removing the software the system will ask you to reboot the computer. after rebooting the computer, go to this URL and download the Norton 360 and install:- http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/n360/ . you should be all set to go. hope this helps you
Make sure you have the CD key or have registered your product on Symantec. You will also need any other Norton product keys if you have them installed on your computer.
Best advice I can give is to first run the Norton Removal Tool which can be found at Norton Removal Tool at Step 4. This will fully remove all Norton products from your system.
After you run the Removal Tool, you can reinstall the 360 software, run Live Update, and enter your CD Key to reactivate. It should pick up where you left off as far as Days Remaining.
