Timer/stand by light in the front panel is blinking. The picture is all red and only stays on for about 20 seconds and then shuts the tv off. The light is blinking 5 times. Is there a home fix for this or only a technician will be able to diagnose and fix?

Dodgebrat250,

By blinking 5 times I will assume that you mean the standby light blinks 5 times approximately 1 second apart, then pauses for 3 seconds and repeats. If this is true then you have a fairly complicated problem which could be anyone of three different areas. If you are not trained in electronics you will probably need a technician to solve the problem.

The problem is on the A or C board or it may need the screen drive turned up. One the C board check Q705, 732, 761 and all associated components. Look for bulging capacitors and replace as necessary. On the A board check Q218, 219, 220 and any associated components. Also look for bad electrolytic capacitors as above.

This is only a small part of what the problem could be and without actually looking at the set and doing testing it is difficult to recommend any further action.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4425498-basic_standard_tv_troubleshooting which might help track the problem down.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

My bravia will not stay on.

Hi,
If Bravia tv wont stay On and shuts Off itself that means it got some internal problem, you will see red light flashing on tv front in specific blinking time that is an error code, let me know how many times that red light is blinking after three seconds long pause to diagnose problem.
Thanks.

Sony shuts off after being turned on, stand by/timer light blinks

The blinking should be in a pattern of a count, pause, count. That is an indication of the problem circuit. Can you post that count please? That info will allow me to give you possible defective parts and costs for the repair.

Thanks,

The screen stays black when the power is turned on. the stand by/timer ligt blinks

There is a high voltage, and or scan failure. This can be the flyback assembly, and or other support components. If the CRT is defective, it can cause this type of shut-down.

The cost for servicing this would be fairly expensive. It would be best to start shopping for a new set.

Sony Trinitron Color TV KV-35V65 - No Picture, red light stand/by timer flashing

A reset won't fix this. The standby light should be blinking a repeated count with a 3 second pause inbetween. Post that count here. That will indicate the circuit/condition that is preventing the set from turning on.

Thanks,
Dan

Tv turns self off when turned on

Does it blink a certain amount of blinks pause a second or just blink constantly with no pauses? Let me know it will blink a code if its going into protected shutdown. And it will blink constantly for another reason.
