If this is the synet07526 (turn over and check label) the solution lies with digitalgadgets. I've spent an hour on the phone with their tech people without solving the problem. ( had to wait 3 days) No connection to hotspots, my own wireless router, or even direct wired to my router. the pnone and website are in the small instruction sheet that comes with the unit. There is no larger manual. I am returning the unit to CVS. ( I have tried 2 units with no luck. Even if they did connect my real question is whether you can use normal websites at banks, utilities, businesses or whether you need the reduced mobile sites. Good Luck

There is now a Wifi update on the digitalgadgets website under support. It installed with no trouble. I don't have wifi available to test it but presumably it will help.

How do you download a patch to a netbook that won't connect to the network? I did try downlading it to my pc and transfer via sd card, zipped and unzipped, but neither of my systems could open the file?

  • Norman Worley Nov 27, 2010

Since the SYNET07526 has USB capability, you can down load to a thumb drive, connect the thumb drive to the SYNET07526 USB, Find the thumb drive under My Computer, copy the file to the desktop of SYNET07526 and execute.

  • mytagz Dec 05, 2010

what? how do you connect the thumb drive to the USB. Please respond to [email protected] as I probably wont find this again. PLEASE im on my last nerve with this thing

  • mytagz Dec 05, 2010

I copied to my SDCard and then copied it to my SYNET07526 desktop. Clicked it open and message said no appliction associated with RT2870. Run application first, then open this file from within the application. What application???? This is seriously ridiculous. I got this Nov 26 and still trying to get this thing going every day since then. Its now the 3rd. I was on hold for 3 hours. Once I got thru I got a foreign rep who just kept repeating the same line over and over saying once you get IP address starting w 192. you are online. NO SH*T! I bought 4 of these for presents. ALL going back tomorrow if I cannot get this resolved. I even emailed them twice. They just suggest unplugging router and plugging back in. Still, I get IP address starting w 169.
    Does anybody have a clue????

You can't download to a SNET7526 that will not connect., that is for sure. It also will not read the files that have on a SD card, but it will let me add files from its recognized files. So. trying to download to a SD card is fruitless.

It will read the files I have on a USB thumb drive and is recognized under my computer as a USB disk. So, You have to take a thumb drive and down load to it using another computer. Then plug the thumb into your USB port on the back side. Get up "my computer" and look for a USB disk click on that drive and see RT2870.arm. Right click on that icon and select copy. Return to the desk top and find an empty space and right click. The menu will open up and select paste and the RT2870 file is on your desk top. Double click on that icon and follow the directions. cut your machine off or reset by the little recessed button on the back and you should be able to see your network if it is running.

I know it is frustrating, but it will work. Of course I have done it a few times so I am use to it. Remember it is not a very apt notebook. It is more like a toy.

Just got the digitalgadgets sylvania 7" Windows CE and their instructions (all 14 pages) left something out about connecting to the Web. Went on-line with another system looked up the instructions there. Connection works fine so long as (WiFi Power is on) and the function and F9 key are hit together to bring up the icon on the bottom right for wireless that looks like a PC with sound when that pop up opens select the wireless information tab and connect that way.

That will get you into CE 6 wireless

But How do I find a flash player that will work with You Tube? [email protected]

  • a_bearsllc Jan 04, 2011

i have tried for hours following how to connect forums for my 7" notebook....and the only thing that worked is calling the no1-888-571-0866....for help the problem is the ip address is being connected to the windows program and not the internet....so the only way to fix the problem is to have the rep. give you the correct ip address and as soon as i don that it was online in seconds....please do this it is the only wasy

Well, on a scale of 1-10, I give this about a 4. I found it online from another site for $79, so I thought I'd take the plunge.
Getting it to connect wirelessly was OK. Follow the instrctions, but be sure to click on the "WiFi Power" Icon right away. Make sure it says "Power Off"- because that means it's on. It's kinda like a manual switch that sticks further out when it's off. Then click on the icon in the tray for wireless. The BIG thing here is to be sure your security settings for your wireless network and those on the netbook are the same. Then enter in your passkey or the 26 network key. This is where I got stumped.

Please bear in mind that I am NOT a technical person in any way, shape or form. This is what I've noticed just from using it tonight.

After calls to digital gadgets and trying to get someone from CVS or Sylvania not to wash their hands of the products problems when trying to connect I almost gave up. I am in NYC all day and there are many many hotspots available, in 3 days it would only connect to one and would not connect to my home wireless router once or a verizon wifi card more than twice. I was told my digital gadgets they were sending me an SD card that I could plug in and update and it will solve the problem, the SD never showed up. I took a chance and purchased a clear personal hotspot called a "clear spot" and it actually works and solved the problem. Most of the time 99% it just finds the clearspot and good to go, but every once and a while it keeps looking for other hotspots. I figured I can use this device for my full size windows 7 notebook if I need it and if I ever want to upgrade to a "real" netbook. I do not think doing the update will change the speed or solve the searching for hotspots at time so- my opinion is get a wifi personal hotspot device and note not a USB wifi card that plugs in and you can actually use this little toy!!

SOURCE: I have a sylvania synet07526-r netbook computer

Try and follow the detail below. The detail is for the SYNET07526.

It is looking for apassword (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computericon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOTconnected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up,then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name ofyour WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another windowopens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is providedautomatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "NetworkKey", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This"KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your servercomputer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on its back andusing a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally fromthe right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everythingincluding the WiFi RT28701 driver. sometime thisdriver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing AdditionalInformation When I try to signon with the red X showing, I get "The page cannot be displayed If I thendouble click on the icon down in the right corner I elucidated above, RT28701opens up to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with all zeros in the IP addressfield, and Subnet Mask, with no entries in the default gateway. That is a clueto me that the automatic sign on has not found a viable network, or needssomething else. If I then click on Wireless Information tab, the list ofavailable networks, appear in the box. The machine keeps trying to associate myprevious entered name site with my preferred site and tells me the signal isgood, but it cannot link up. This is a signal to me that it has lost my NetworkKey or that the softwarehas failed or both. I then click on advance and delete my preferred network andhit OK, this will force the software to ask me for my network again, and noticethat the preferred is missing. I click on the name of my network again and thenhit connect., then the Wireless Network properties window opens up and I caninsert my Network Key again after I uncheck the "The key is providedautomatically" box. I enter the key and hit the OK button. I still do notget a connection, so I reboot the machine, and wait for about 30 seconds andthe machine synchs up because the little RED X under the icon has disappeared. Now the machine will hook to the internet as long as I want to, but sometimeswhen I turn the machine on it will not synch, so I go through the abovesequence again. The secret is once you have entered your key and ask for themachine to synch up you have to reboot. Why? I do not exactly know, but Isuspect that the WiFi driver looses it You may also wantto look at the TIP http://www.fixya.com/support/r7679654-sylvania_syneto7526_wirless_keyboard To make your knowledge complete

SOURCE: Product: Sylvania Netbook (SyNet7WID).

Hello, from what I understand, the netbook doesn't use an Intel-standard processor, so only code specifically for that chip will run, ie, no downloadable plug-ins,java, flash etc. CE itself is based on windows 98. I found a site giving useful overviews on these netbooks, I think they're worth visiting: tp://bestgadgetnow.co.uk/gadget-news/99-cvs-sylvania-netbook-computer-review/
just don't try to view it on your netbook! regards, nicam49

I can't download Adobe Flash for my Sylvania & inch mini-Nebook

That is because your netbook runs Windows CE, that is totally different from all other Windows Os's - they have absolutely nothing in common, just the name. Almost no program made for other Windowses will work in CE , so no Flash either.

I have sylvania netbook synet07526. is there a way to put adobe flash player on it?

Some web sites do not have the ability to service a Win CE system. In order to service such a system the site must re-locate the request to a small application server. That small application could be a smart phone or like device which the CE operating system was designed for. AOL may be such a site or their server could be down.

Although I am connected with an excellant signal strength, when I go to internet explorer it says "cannot find server or dns error" I've done all the updates listed on the Sylvania page but...

Try this:

Go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Internet Options", "General" and complete "user agent (requires browser restart" by selecting:
"Default (same as windows XP)" or
"Same As Pocket PC" or
"Windows CE".

I selected "default" and was off and running.

My Sylvania 7" netbook from CVS uses Windows CE.

Google "digital gadgets.com". There find "Sylvania Products". Then click on "7 inch netbook support" and follow directions.
For item # 4, you find your "hot spot" name and click "connect". For item # 5, you may have to call your Internet Service Provider (Charter, AT&T or whoever you pay for your internet in order to get your "network keys" fill that in and then click "OK".

Next be sure you go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Internet Options", "General" and complete "user agent (requires browser restart" by selecting:
"Default (same as windows XP)" or
"Same As Pocket PC" or
"Windows CE".

I selected "default" and was off and running.

Although this isn't a "lap-top" it is a really neat little machine and does a lot of stuff almost like one. It should be great for travel! It is a little slow and has small memory, but it's inexpensive and usb/sd ports are there. A regular universal mouse helps-just plug it into a USB port. I'm doing internet, movies, word processing, etc like everything and I think a lot of people are way under-rating this fun machine! -DKA-

The Sylvania 7" G-Netbook PC uses Windows CE. The only way to install SOFTWARE (not spyware) on it, is downloading only software for Windows CE.

You can find software in internet using google: "windows ce download shareware"

I have a Sylvania netbook. I could connect to my router and my neighbors unlocked router on my laptop and palm pilot but not the Sylvania netbook. Tech support had me reset it, turn off and on the wifi...

I had a similar problem, and tech support from Sylvania didnt't help. At the end, they told me they would have a higher level tech call me, which of course, never happened. The issue relates to a Windows CE 6.0 problem making contact and receiving an IP address from the router (in my case, I have a DLINK DI-825 router. Since I don't know your router addresses, I will use mine as an example. My router self assigns to 192.168.0.1 as the gateway. You will have to manually assign to get things to work. If you are going to use wireless, make sure to turn on (click wifi power icon, then click power ON. the button will change to power off -- shut the window by clicking ok (do NOT click power off). For ethernet, plug in your cable. Now you must manually assign the IP addresses (this is the windows CE problem.) Click START>NETWORK&Dialup Connections. This brings up a window with icons for each type of connection. The ethernet connection starts with GET, the wireless connection starts with RT. Click the appropriate icon for the connection you are using. You will have to manually assign an IP address on your home network (ask whoever set up your router if there is a problem) I use 192.168.0.99. Click specify and IP address, put in the address you want to manually assign to the netbook, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 (universal for home network) and put in you router ip (as I mentioned, 192.168.0.1 in my system). Now click on the name server tab and fill in primary dns ip 4.2.2.2 and secondary 8.8.8.8 (public name servers) Click OK button in upper right corner of window to save settings. Reboot the system. If using wireless, one extra step. Click on the network item in the lower right hand portion of the windows CE taskbar for the wireless connection you want to use. Make sure your password is set up properly and click connect/OK (WEP or WPA or WPA2 all will work.) You should be online. If you take your netbook out, you have to undo the manual IP addresses to log onto public networks, since they often have more complex setups and do not allow you to set up manual (ie static) ip addresses. Hope this helps. Unfortuantely this is a Windows CE issue which is why Macs, Windows XP, Palms, iphones, and linux computers all work without a problem but windows CE doesn't. Good luck and post if this helps you.
