Anonymous Posted on Sep 11, 2010

I have the MCF 7340. I am getting a message - End of Drum Soon. So, I bought a new drum ($120) and installed it. Now it says Drum end. and won't print. Ive turned the machine on and off several times, re-insetred the drum and toner, taken toner cartridge out and re-installed and repeated these steps several times not, but still get the End of Drom message. is ther something that I must manually reset to fix this? David

If you open the front cover of your printer where you install the toner cartridge and press the "Clear/Back" button with it open, an option comes up on your LCD Display that says "Replace Drum?" press 1 to reset it. That should fix your problem!

Testimonial: "That worked!!! Thank you very much. "

Drum Life Ends soon - Brother

The problem with this is the design. Each toner cartridge has a microchip on it, that counts the pages you print. The company has determined that you get x amounts of prints. Then you have to replace it, empty or not. This printers do not work the same way as an expensive professional business copier. In an pro style there is a spent toner cartridge that collects all of the wasted toner that is on the drum. On a small business/home style this spent toner goes back into the cartridge. There is no level indicator, even on the inkjet printer. They too, have a chip that says you have x amount of prints/cleaning cycles they can go through. Look up inkjet refill kits or inkjet cartridge programmer.

Drum end soon again

My MFC-7420 began to display the message "Drum end soon" so I quickly went out and purchased a new drum. But I decided not to install it until I needed to. Because what does "drum end soon" mean? I thought it would mean that the print quality would deteriorate enough that I would notice the problem. So I continued to replace toner as needed, and pushed the blue cleaning thing down the wire regularly. This went on for over 3 years until *finally* I started having regular print job production problems. I replaced the drum, and the problems were solved. So,my advice is be prepared, but don't replace the drum until you have to -- the message means very little.

I was getting drum error message so I installed a new drum and toner. I am still getting drum error message. Please advise.

Hi,
Did you "tell" the machine that you have installed a new drum? You have to confirm that the drum has been replaced, so the unit can reset it's usage counter and work happily.
Go to the link below, it explains the whole procedure, including the confirmation at the end.
Remove the drum again, reinstall same one and confirm as per the instructions.

Sounds like you need to replace the drum unit soon. Here is a new one that you can buy that is compatible with your printer: http://www.amazon.com/Brother-DR360-DR-360-Drum-Unit/dp/B001QTY5QE/ref=sr_1_9?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1305153837&sr=1-9.

Brother MCF-7340 first time toner replacement

If this model comes with the drum separately of the cartridge, only replace the cartridge. There's no need to change it every time. until prints start to get lines or dots. Don't expose the drum to light too much.
