I want to transfer my DVD's taken with a DC100 Canon video camera to computer files to share on Facebook & other social networking sites. But I have no idea how to get them from DVD to computer file format. The camera didn't come with any software or computer cables, etc. It's about 5 or 6yrs old. Thanks!

Please make sure to finalize the disc before inserting it to the computer.

steps:

1.go to media browser(its the mode where you playback recorded videos)
2.press menu button
3.pres right directional button
4.press down directional button and look for the "finalize" option and press ok

note: plug the camcorder to walloutlet during the process and avoid vibrations and movements with the camcorder. it would be better if you place the camcorder on a stable surface during the process.

-wait until finalization finishes and then insert the disc to computer and then copy the videos to a folder in your computer and so that you can upload them to facebook.

How to upload pictures?

This will depend where you will upload it. First of all, you may need to transfer your photos to your computer for easier uploading.

Then you can upload the pictures in social networking sites like Facebook, Friendster, Hi5, Linkedin, etc.

You can also upload your photos to photo uploading site to share it with your friends like Picassa, Photobucket, etc.

Editing videos taken from canon dc100 camcorder

I see here that . . .

"The DC100 takes 3-inch Mini DVD-R/RW discs, and like most of its competitors, can fit about 20 minutes of best-quality video on one. If you choose to initialize a disc for playing in a standalone player, the camcorder writes standard VOB files; if you initialize for future editability, it records in the VRO format. Windows Media Player can play the latter if you rename the file with an MPG extension, however the aspect-ratio information gets lost--that info is encoded into a separate file--so 16:9 video will get squashed into 4:3. "

Cnet Reviews.

Your videos are recorded in the common DVD format called MP2.
They have the extention .MPG so if you copy the video files to your computer, and change the end of the filename from VOB, or VRO to an MPG then your software can recognize it as the MP2 format that it is.

There is a Windows XP program, called Windows Movie Maker, it can open your video files and provide you with most of the video editing tools.

Cheers.

How do I transfer the mini DVD to Movie Maker

With your Recorded DVD-R Disc "Finalized", and in the DVD player on your computer, you should be able to browse to your videos with Movie Maker.

In MovieMaker, on the left side where it lists:
Movie Tasks
1. Capture Video
Capture from Video device
Import video . . .

You want to "Import Video", by clicking that and browsing to the DVD-R to find what could be MPG files, or VOB files. They're both MP2 DVD format video and audio files.

Tip: Right Clicking in the Import Video Dialogue Box where the files are listed and selecting View / Thumbnails, will present a view of the scenes in each video.

BURNING FROM COMPUTER TO A DICS

I am also having trouble making copies of the mini dvd from my camera - when I try to use nero software, it says I need Dolby Digital sound software. It would be nice to have an easy way to share home movies with family and friends by easily making copies of the dvd.
