When taking a picture with my REBEL EOS the image display only shows the top half and the bottom portion is black. When I download the images they only show the top portion that was seen in the image display. Anyone else had this problem? Any help appreciated.

Um, no. EOS Rebel is a "single lens reflex" camera. The display on the back does not show live image. Use the viewfinder above it. After you take a picture, the picture will show on the screen for a few seconds.

Try to use another card

Check to make sure that you did not accidentally change image format from jpg to crw(camera raw). Your camera lcd will only display jpg files and you need special software to view raw files on the pc.

It might be that it accidently change the display time of the picture or turned it off. There is a setting that you can change to display pictures. Check if that might be the problem.

Take it apart and realign it. Make sure you don't have anything blocking the sensor.

The camera firmware should be reloaded, if this fails then the camera is likely beyond end user servicing and should be repaired by a professional.

The reason your only seeing bottom half is as the reflex mirror is opening upwards to expose the sensor ( traditional cameras opened the mirror then a shutter to expose film ) your cameras sensor is only registering or transferring the bottom half of the image because it is the image is registered bottom first to the top until the shutter closes and the mirror returns to resting position.

Your problem could be the result of firmware or a more serious issue.

Are you taking these images with a flash? If so it is possible that you are shooting with a shutter speed which is too fast for flash photography. Anything faster then 1/125th (i think) on that camera with flash will produce the result you are describing. If this is without flash then the problem lies elsewhere. New flashes from canon have the capability to work with any shutter speed, but classic flashes only work properly at lower speeds. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
