Hello, my Kenmore 27514 canister vacuum only works on the hard floor...the carpet suction stopped working while I was using it. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it necessary to take it in for repair? The vacuum is only 1.5 years old. Thanks. Susan 702.340.8015

On the back of the Hoover is a couple of parts you can remove, one is a u bend which will trap heavier parts which resist the suction so get stuck in the bottom of this, and the other part is usually on the right at the bottom which is an acces point to the very art which you hear click. In the upright position it directs the vacuum suction up the extendable pipe, but when you pull the handle back, it should gently glide from one direction over to direct vacuum suction to the bottom plate. It's tha part which is getting stuck in the handle sucking direction. I'd check to see if it is physically damaged in any way or if something is tapped in it like a coin or something. Good luck
The belt is broken.First while looking at the brushes, find the screws that hold that bottom plate on.Remove the screws and the plate comes off. This will allow you to lift the brush out of the vacuum. It is important to make note of how the brush fits in the vacuum. The new belt will fit on a groove on the brush. The other end fits on a small wheel about six inches back from the brush.
Please define "works" on carpet mode" do you mean when you say it does not work at all, that it does not run, or does not have suction. This sounds like the symptom of a clogged hose with blockage like this another vac needs to be used to draw things back out of the hose the way they went in.. Remove the hose and try dropping a penny through it . If there is an obstruction the penny will stop at that point and rattle inside the hose.
With a blockage at the hose, your power head will still lift lint and light soft dust, it will appear to have suction because the brush will sweep but the dirt will not go all the way through the hose. Please post back to clarify if this is a vac that does not run or simpley has no suction
The neck in your power head is likely clogged. Disconnect from the wand and look inside. Also check the wand.Since you have suction on the bare floor the hose is likely not blocked.
My guess would be a slightly loose belt - tight enough to spin the roller on a hard floor, but loose enough to slip (then get hot and stink) when the roller is having to work against the pile of a carpet.
Worth buying and fitting a new belt without pausing to investigate further, simply because they're so cheap and you'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway.
