I have an old john deere 4020 diesel and on the right side of the tractor where the brake lines go into the case there is a small plastic line that looks like a vent line but it leaks hydrolic fluid??? is this a weep hole for the hydrolic pump or a vent for the case or does the line need to be run back into the case?

some-times the 3pt linkage can go past the top position.

When this happens - you will need to force! the linkage arms down.

SOURCE: If I have a small leak on one of the injection

check each injector in turn ( crack it open where the fuel pipe attaches to the injector ) be very carefull you dont get injected ( VERY BAD ) and use a rag to ensure the fuel spray dosent go everywhere , listen for the engine note changing, if it does on each pipe/injector nut this indicates your injectors are ok ,the fuel system maybe drawing air/loosing pressure so then replace your fuel pipe olives which cost pennys and the copper washers on the various banjo bolts /unions

Replace a fanbelt on john deere 4020 diesel tractor

Most older models had the adjustment on the alternator. loosen it and push it toward the engine. remove & replace the belt. Pull the alternator away from the engine until the pulley cannot be turned by hand due to the tension. Tighten the adjustment bolt to secure it. Don't overtighten the belt.

How can I restart my 4020 diesel after it ran out of diesel?

Crack open the line coming into the injection pump from the fuel pump (near the top of inj. pump, towards firewall). Pump the lever on fuel pump until fuel comes out of loosened line. Tighten line. Loosen at least two injector lines at injection pump head. Crank engine with starter until fuel pulses from loosened lines. Tighten lines. Crank engine again. Engine should begin firing on these cylinders first, followed by the remaining cylinders.

I ran my john deere 790 out of fuel.how do i restart

With diesel, sometimes you have to bleed air out before it will run again. Typically you disconnect the fuel line going to the injector pump, manually activate the fuel pump, or turn over until fuel comes out, then release one or more of the injectors, and turn engine over again. Normally that bleeds enough to start and then the rest of the air gets pushed through.

4020 john deere compact diesel. Lost hydraulics and do not know how to check fluid level. Worked good and just quit. Can not see any leaks??

Hi,
I doubt that it is the fluid level...it's been a few years... but I seem to remember there being a couple at the front of the motor that ran the hydralic pump...I am wondering if your problem is not there...tthe hydralic pump sits under the fuel tank at the front of the tractor... check there to see if everything is working right there...of course it could be the pump its self that has gone bad...

John deere 2140 had gas put in it instead of diesal what going to happen

Don't run it until you've completely drained and flushed and refilled the fuel system, tank, lines, pump...
Don't run it! Diesel fuel is more of an oil whereas gas is more volitile... Avoid starting or running to prevent any damage to your engine!

Starts good runs good on idol, but under load misses

Is it a lp,gas are diesel?...If lp are gas check timing and point are in some cases the flapper in the carberator. If Diesel it possible the flex ring is coming apart in the injection pump and stoping up the return lines at the injectors retarding the timing advance in the injector pump..very common in the 3020 4010 4020 4320 and 5020 John Deere ag tractors...
