I have a Hitachi 50EX8K. I believe I have a convergence problem. Colors are blurred, and the picture is pulled in near the center at the top and bottom of the screen. It would happen rarely, and recover quickly (within 5 minutes), this time it has been days. I've cleaned the lenses and mirror. All three lamps are on. Any suggestions?

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

sounds like convergence problems. look under tvrepairman and give your zip code to find a service tech.

you need to change the convergence chips that are attached to a heat sink, they are the two black chips with a lot of legs on them.

replace the convergence amp ICs and also check the low ohm resistors

Replace both IC's with first quality Hitachi upgade STK394-160
part # CZ 01341 and inspect near-by resistors for over-heating.
