To be honest you have more of a chance of hell freezing over, win 98 se although being the better out of the lot, you will never get the drivers for it, usb2 will never work with that os and it will never recognise the sata disk, you could try using win xp drivers for it, but i very much doubt you will get any response, your best bet would be to upgrade to xp...sorry its negative, but Microsoft stopped updates for 98 years ago...

I need the instructions for Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U

The manufacturer page for this item is here: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002058
Their support page does not provide a manual, instructions or drivers.
I suspect that is because none are needed. This is essentially an external hard drive enclosure for SATA drives which are standard. Connected via eSATA or USB.

FreeAgent Pro USB broken -- need data from Momentus drive

Momentus is a SATA drive, so you can put it in any PC that has SATA bus to access the drive.
If you can borrow a SATA to USB dock, you can put it in the dock and plug the dock to USB port on a computer to get your data out the drive.
One example for the USB dock is EZ-dock and you can search on Internet for the picture.

I know it might sound a bit simple, but let's start at the beginning.

Make sure that the power is properly plugged in, and that it's securely plugged into the USB port.

Put in the hard drive you will be using.
Now turn on your device by clicking on the power button.
Listen out for a "ding" or a chime in your OS.

If you DO hear one, the hard drives may need to be properly formatted or not properly assigned.

If you hear a chime, go to your desktop and right-click on "Computer" and click "Manage"

Go to "Disk Management" and at the top, there are a few options, and check for your hard drives, and right-click on the proper one and click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths" assign it a letter, and check "Computer" to see if came up.

Thanks,

How do you get an external sata disc mounted in a dock (Thermaltake Black X dock) to communicate with a WIN 98 SE system? The box says the dock supports WIN 98 buit I cannot find drivers that work.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98 over two years ago,
and stopped supporting Windows 2000 on July 16, 2010.

So, any company that manufactures "new" (in the last two years) hardware probably will _NOT_ have written device-drivers for Windows 98/98SE/NT/2000.

Does the external disk work correctly when connected to a computer running Windows XP? Vista? 7 ?
If not, then maybe the external disk itself is the problem.

Connected external usb drive to my computer which runs windows xp. Computer says drive is working properly, but drive does not appear on windows explorer. Also cannot assign drive letter, so cannot...

Win 2k, XP, Vista, and Win7 have a CONTROL PANEL applet called Administrative Tools - opening that there is a sub applet called Computer Management - and openint that there is another sub applet called Disk Management. In Disk Management you will usually find all of your drives (including those that don't show up in Windows Explorer). A new drive will probably be listed as drive 1 or something like that and shown as UNALLOCATED space. Right click that drive (my best advice on how to be sure its the right drive is to know the drive size .. ie 500 gb or 750 gb etc AND seeing that it is inactive) to activate it and to partition and format it.

250 GB Western Digital external HD not detected by Win 98 SE

If you installed SE on Win 98, then here is a link to a generic USB driver that should work with your HD. If at some point you decide to install a newer OS or go dual-boot, you can always partition the HD so you don't lose any storage. Best of luck.

How does a external USB SATA drive dock

yes you can but whether that would make it work or not is a different story.

It depends if the hard drive is still working or not however it would test for certain whether it is working or not.

Is there a driver to allow sony micro vault 2.0gb on win 98?

Specs say it is compatible with Windows 98 SE. Also says no drivers are needed for it. Make sure your plug 'n play is enabled on your computer. Once it is enabled just plug the drive in & Win 98SE should install it. If it does not work then try a different usb port as maybe a port is bad. Hope this helps.
