Gas stovetop not igniting without matches

Hi, I read a few of your replies to people's problems. I have a problem with my gas stovetop not igniting when the knob is in the "ignite" position. It just clicks, and it sounds like the click is coming from a different burner sometimes. What would you say is the best way to solve this problem? spark module or ignitor replacement?

If the rest of the surface igniters are working, more than likely your spark module is working fine. (This is normal, by the way) I would suspect that you have a bad spark electrode at the burner in question, a bad burner switch, or bad wiring.

I found several part listings for the model number you posted this question under at repairclinic.com. You will need to provide a more complete model number in order to narrow your search to ensure you get the right part. You can find your model number on a nameplate around the oven door opening, or lower drawer opening (if equipped). Some manufacturers also place this information on the back of the range.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions. Please reply back to this posting if you need further troubleshooting guidance.

Igniter clicks, but gas will not flow.

if you don't smell gas (rotten eggs/sulphur), the gas is off or clogged. there are little pin-hole spouts for the gas to come out before it gets to the burner, and they get clogged easily by falling food/liquid. you have to take the stovetop off to get to them.

Stovetop works but oven does not.

Most likely your problem is the glowplug aka oven igniter. Even though it comes on it must reach a certain temp for the gas to come on. Occaisionally the valve will be bad but 90% of the time it is the igniter. Part number is 74007498

Gas stove with electric starter

regardless of electrical supply to home you can always match light you stovetop incases of power failure, your bake and broil would be compromised by lack of electricity.

Ignition

When you turn the gas valve to High or Ignite position..do you hear or smell gas going into the gas burner? If yes, then look at the position of the igniter in respect to the gas burner to see if it generates a spark either with or without gas running.. .. if you have gas entering the gas burner.. and if you've used the Grill a lot.. the jets may be clogged and need cleaned to allow gas flow thru them.. if the jets from the burner are clogged in or near the igniter..it may not ignite easily untill you get lots of propane in the area.. Check the gas jets to make sure you have gas coming out and then check the igniter to make sure it generates a spark.. Hope that helps..
