Download type: utility
Product Type: USB Flash drive
The low-level format utility was an excellent solution. This one works on USB drives, while other low-level ones do not. In many cases, this problem is caused by failure to use the "Safely Remove USB" tool on your system tray before you remove your flash drive. This is the little green arrow at the bottom of your screen. Even so, Vista many times will simply not release the device no matter what, in which case you should shut down before removing your device.
Take a hammer, and pound it to pieces!
I have same problem too... i have photos i save from my friends computer now i cannot open and access... i say WTF? any computer usb cannot open it anymore...

2G Optima Attache turns up write protected for no reason. No Windows utility will fix it. No FDisk utility helped either. What a crock!

I tried using my PNY Optima Attache 2G for the first time, and a pop-up states that "The Media is Write Protected". I have not found a fix for this problem on the PNY website. Is there a fix for this, or have I just wasted my money?
I have the same problem I have a file stuck on the drive and now its write protected
I have experienced to same problem -- just went write protected in the middle of a file transfer. Now, I can't use for the reason I brought it. A total waste of time and my money.
I used my PNY 2G memory stick successfully for about 1 month, then for no apparent reason it became write protected. I haven't been able to figure out how to un-write protect it, or re-format it. It is now useless.

I've had my optima pro attache approx. 2 mos. and now the "write protect" has occurred.
I've had the exact smae problem with the device, mysterious appearance of write protect that disables the use of the device. Cannot add or delete anything to it, cannot reformat or do anything with it. This is one of two that I own, the other one works perfectly fine, so far. have had bot about 3 months, did not try to download new driver or anything ike that. This just happened during a normal save file routine

Same problem here. I can copy from it but cannot write to it. Other one works fine, so far.
I just ran into this today. Last time I wrote a file to this thumb drive was Sep 17, 2008. I tried to use it today and could not write to it. The solution he that suggested the Apacer utility worked. The utility is kind of scary since it prompts you with a dialog that all data on the drive will be lost without much detail. Fortunately, it only deleted the data on the usb thumb drive.
What they said - write protected message.
