I have this MO, populated with 2Gb of ram and an AMD/sempron CPU; i have a new monitor and would like to have a video card that would send DVI to the monitor rather than VGA, which looks very coarse on the screen. The video card is in PCI bus 1; the current card is VIA/S3G unichrom Pro IGP; i have seen many PCI video cards on sale on the NET, and some even have dual DVI output; how can I tell which if any might work with my modest system? thanks much, jbm

SOURCE: PC Chips M848A dead, no screen output or blips

I had the same problem. I bought the M848A from Newegg in an attempt to save my trusty Athlon 2600+ CPU and a fancy Raedon 512mb AGP card which I salvaged out of my old broken down system. I thought it would be a good time to update the RAM so I bought 2 gigs of OCZ 3200 DDR400 to go with.

Problems:
(1) First the damn thing wouldn't boot past the post screen. It would simply cycle thru post over and over. Fixed: The microsoft XPpro operating system was corrupt. The new board hated the old configs from the previous system. After trying (and failing) a os repair, I ended up simply doing a clean intall with great results. Board was stable worked great for a week. Only had one glitch...

(2) The board would only recognize and post ONE of the 2 gigs of ram I bought. I raided all the CMOS settings, and downloaded all the user manuals I could get a hold of and found no answers to this curious problem. On a whim, I opened the case and switched their locations back and forth which led me to...

(3) Lights on, no one home. All the lights came on... power, HDD, cd drives... all the fans worked: case, CPU, graphics card... but the screen would remain blank/unpowered and no post menu would come up. Seemed like it wanted to work, but simply stopped short of booting up. THIS WAS YOUR PROBLEM?!?? On a hunch, (more an angry impulse) I reached over and popped an old Mushkin Technologies (PC 3200 400DDR) 512mb out of my old dead mobo and slammed it solo in the primary memory slot. Bingo. Fired right up.

The board appears to be testy with its RAM... If it fails its initial memory test, it will not post. The screen will not come on. I'm not 100% certain this is the final solution to the problem... I'm still playing with it. My questions now are.... do I have dead RAM? Chip compatibility issues? Perhaps the PC Chips support techs on their website have some practical advice on this issue. I'll keep you posted if you like.

I can install windows 8 on MY pc?? cpu:amd sempron

I don't think you can run Windows 8 on your system.
What Microsoft say are the minimum requirements for a system to run Windows 8 can be found here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/system-requirements
First, the processor needs to have certain features - SSE2, NX and PAE which I don't think the Sempron 3000+ has; and you be able to run only the 32-bit version if could run that because you don't have enough RAM, and your processor is a 32-bit processor.
Secondly, the 9250 isn't up to it. It doesn't have WDDM drivers, because it's not a true Direct 9X graphics card; it not being a DirectX 9 card is enough to preclude from running Windows 6 anyway.

Your processor, RAM and graphics card might be upgradeable to be able to support a 32-bit version of W8, but that may be more expensive than buying a (new) W8 computer anyway.

Anyway that's what my brief study of the topic has lead me to believe. It's a no.

On the other hand, see these:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/amd-sempron-3000-for-windows-8/9b9c1659-63dc-4069-99fa-eb8e08040738
and
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1806278/install-windows-cpu-amd-sempron-3000-ram-512-ddr-ddr-gpu-radeon-9250.html
(found by searching the internet with "running windows 8 on a sempron 3000+")
They say "Yes".

So I think more research needs to be done. Note the second article says the system will have terrible performance.

Greetings. I wanna upgrade my processor from amd sempron 3200+ 1.8 ghz to athlon 2 x2 260 processor. But when I put the athlon 2 x2 260 proc, it didnt work.

Did you check to see if it would handle that type of upgrade? Maybe that's your problem, it's not compatible. Research and see if it can handle it, then we can find a solution if it can.

I want to upgrade from a AMD Sempron processor 2800+ 1.6GHz 192MB to a faster AMD processor with more RAM. I have an Acer 3002LC laptop. Can you advise me what CPU will support this...

My advice to you is to purchase a faster/newer laptop.

A new processor plus labour to install the CPU will cost a substantial amount of money and the performance gain will be marginal. Also RAM bottle neck come into affect as 192mb of RAM is not going to cut it, now-days you need at least 2GB of it. I myself prefer AMD their new AMD Athlon 2 X2 CPUs perform really well.

Hi i have just bought a new radeon x1650 pro 512mb graphics card and ive removed the drivers from my last graphics card and placed the new radeon into my computer. but when i turn it all on to install the...

When the card is properly installed and the system properly configured, you should at least be getting the POST screen, since that is not driver dependent. And Windows knows to go to the default standard VGA driver when it can't find specific drivers for a card. So we're looking at a hardware issue, not software.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I would take. Some would seem obvious and you've probably already tried them, but I like to be complete:

Is the monitor switchable betwwen two inputs? Do you have it set to the correct input (i.e. VGA vs DVI)? hit the selection button on the front panel, just in case.

Is the card properly seated? Take it out and put it back in. Also, oddly enough, reseating RAM can fix a lot of problems, even seemingly unrelated ones.

Is there an on-board VGA connector? If so, switch over to that and see if you get picture. Then go into CMOS settings and look for a video setting that would make the add-in card the default display. Or simply disable the on-board VGA.

Check the pins on your monitor connection, make sure none are bent.

If none of these get you a picture, I would suggest a defective graphics card.

Hardware upgrade required for autocad 2009

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2

Amd sempron

Make sure you go into the bios settings of your motherboard and shut off the on board VGA. You will need to plug the monitor into the onboard VGA adaptor before proceeding to use the secondary adaptor.
