Just the stem - is about a $40 repair.
If there is clockspring damage - you're looking at $75ish

HOW TO START YOUR AUTOMATIC WATCH

mcdevito75 here,The Automatic feature in your WATCH consists of a counter-weight attached to the MAIN SPRING by a gear that allows a SLOW but steady wind of your watch with the motion of your WRIST, ARM. Once, only in HIGH END watches, today almost all watch manufacturers have this feature in some of their models. Everyone who owns an AUTOMATIC watch knows, you can START your AUTOMATIC watch by WINDING THE STEM and you can continue to wind the stem with no end. This will at least START your AUTOMATIC watch and, this is true to some extent BUT, does this apply to my watch you ask?, Here"s how to tell if your AUTOMATIC watch will START with a few winds of the stem or not. ------- Very Simply, Hold your AUTOMATIC watch to your ear and wind the stem, if you hear a sound as though something is DRAGGING or the stem feels slightly stiff one way you wind the stem and you hear a clicking sound when you wind in the other direction, then you have the TYPE of AUTOMATIC watch that will start with a few winds of the stem, approx, 20 turns or winds. If on the other hand you hear nothing when you wind the stem and the stem feels very loose when turnning then you have the TYPE of AUTOMATIC watch that winds only with the motion of your wrist / arm, to start this type of AUTOMATIC watch, simply hold the watch in your hand and rock your watch back and forth, say from the 12 O"clock to the 6 O"clock, and or, Hold your watch securely in your hand a make circular motions with your hand, any movement to get your watches counter-balance to turn and thus wind your watch. Approx. 1 minute of this extra motion will start your AUTOMATIC watch, then simply wear your watch and your wrists / arm motion will keep it wound.

Good morning. I am considering purchasing an antique omega watch: 14k white gold AA7442 562738 case serial number The movement is from the Omega watch co.. 17 jewels swiss. Serial number 23625437...

The repair to the winder may be only £30.00 but will the watch then work well.Parts for old Omegas can cost a premium and the watch may need a service.A service to an Omega by a good watchmaker will cost £170.00 ish and if it needs parts this will rise.
As to value if its 14ct on a bracelet the gold is worth about £12.00 a grm so if its 30g then the gold is £350/£400.00
Its hard to say what to pay without knowing if the watch works well,if it needs £200.00 spending on it the value is reduced to little more than the gold value so id weigh the watch work out a gold value and then a small amount.
If you need a repair try www.rolexrepairs.co.uk they offer a free estimate.

Emporio armani 4211

mcdevito75 here, There are 2 ways to wind your Armani Emporio watch, I'm figureing it"s an automatic watch, on some automatics you can start an initial ticking by winding the stem in any direction, if when you wind the stem you feel any resistance then this is the type of automatic watch you Start with about 20--30 winds of the watch. If on the other hand when winding the stem feels very loose and free, no resistance at all, then this is the type of automatic that relize on pure wrist and arm motion to start ticking, simply hold the watch in your hand and make small circle motions, or rocking motion, you should detect something moveing inside the watch, this is the winding counter balncer it's normal, rock or circle the watch for approx. 30 seconds to get it started. In both cases, after the watch starts, the motion of your wrist / arm keeps it wound as you wear it.

Watch is new out of the box. Movement will not start. ???

mcdevito75 here, If your Wittnauer is a Quartz movement, look for a small piece of plastic, just under the crown (winder) remove this piece of plastic carefully and push the crown back down to start your watch, if it's an automatic movement, try to wind with the stem if you feel a resistance then winding will initially start yor watch by winding with 20--30 winds, if you feel no resistance when winding the simply rock your watch back and forth in your hand, you will detect something moveing inside the watch, this is the counter balance winding the watch, rock the watch back and forth for approx. 30 seconds to start an initial wind.

The glass face has cracked how much will it cost to replace it

mcdevito75 here, Cartier a FINE watch, replace the glass crystal, I would figure approx. $100.00 maybe a bit more. Look for a small watch repair shop in your area to save on cost, and they most likely will have to order the crystal straight from Cartier.

My Rolex simply quit running a year or so ago. Is there anything besides a complete overhaul that I can do to try and get it running again? What should a typical "tuneup" cost?

First, try manually winding it about 50 turns. If that doesn't get it started it may need cleaning if it's a few years old. In addition to the authorized repair centers there are many fine independent watchmakers who can service it for less money. Depending on the problem it could cost $200 to $500 for repair. It's unusual for the watch to just quit unless it's been damaged somehow, that's why I suggest winding it fully first.

My wifes recently repaired Rolex loses about an

Is it an automatic self wind or wind up? An automatic watch has a weight that winds the main spring and if you wind it by the crown it will not stop. If its one that you wind by hand then the watch should be wound daily at the same time...like right before bed or when she wakes up. Wind gently until it stops. That costly repair should come with a warranty so if she consistently winds daily and still loses time you need to send it back!

If the watch is an automatic then she can gently hold the watch in her hand and rock it back and forth a good 20 times or so and that will give it a good winding! This is a common issue we see at our watch repair business. Some people do not move enough during the day to keep an automatic movement wound. If thats the case then there is nothing ong with the repair, just make sure it gets a good daily wind! :-)

Rolex runs down

sounds like you need a new watchmaker, Your watch is designed to be worn 16 hours a day an rested for 8 while you sleep and this should keep it running. there are several different mainsprings that can be installed depending on the age and your activity level. I would be happy to take a look at it for you.
