Hi, I purchased a Casio EX-Z40 a few years ago and recently the camera keeps on shutting down by itself when switched on. When I try to switch it back on again, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I showed it to somebody and he said that battery is overcharging to around 4.2v when it should be 3.7v and he said I should buy new battery. I have now purchased a new NP-40 Lithium ION battery (3.7v 1230mAh) and tried to charge it using the USB cradle supplied with the camera. However when charging the new battery the ‘charging’ light keeps on flashing on & off when it should be constantly red. I then tried the old battery and the same thing happens ie charging light flashing on & off. The manual says it’s a ‘charge error’………………so is there a problem with the USB cradle or camera itself? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Allan for the response. When I purchased the camera a few years ago it came with a Casio Exilm NP-40 battery and has been working brilliantly without problems, until recently. So I am confused as to why I now need to change to a NP-20 battery?

Hey Lak_69,
One problem I know of is the battery for your camera should be model NP-20 not model NP-40. The NP-20 has 650mAh. I would exchange your new battery for the correct model battery, and see if this works. If this doesn't work I would try cleaning the battery terminals in the camera, and if that doesn't work go ahead and try a new charger.

If the usb light functions, the problem is with the camera. Because it accept the charge but cannot deliver it to the battery. I think the problem is with the charging circuit, because it is in the camera, not the charger.
Try blow compressed air around the lens, this might help if something stuck in the lens causing it not to retract. you can also try other suggestions from the link below. it's not for the same camera but it might help.
Try reinstalling your camera drivers. You need to uninstall it first while docking station is removed. Then reinstall your camera software through the cd that comes with it then try plugging it in again either on the same usb slot or a different usb slot. Then try docking the camera again if theirs any interruptions. Usually if you transfer the docking stations usb cord plug to a different usb slot, the transfer goes haywire. Try transferring to a different usb slot...
If all else fails, get a card reader for your cameras memory card, it is way faster...
