Question about Cobra 25 WX-NW-ST 40-Channels Base CB Radio

I wish to tune and peak a cobra 25 ltd wx. please tell me what pots to turn. I have all of the necessary meters.

SOURCE: how do you replace the meter light in a cobra 25?

You need to open the unit up ( remove the case/cover). Then remove the 4 screws holding the face plate on. Remove all the knobs ( they slip off) . remove any screws holding the meter on ( there may be none depending on which model you have ) . slide the meter out of the face plate and replace the meter with a new meter. Note: The meter light needs to be reistalled in the new meter. It simply slides out the side of the old meter and slide back in the new meter. Replace all the screws, and the jobs completed.

You got your radio peaked? Most likely, however, the pot for the antenna warning indicator is VR6. I always check that after peaking a radio.

i would highly suggest you take it to a cb shop to get a cb tuned and peaked. before you do that though, make sure you have a good antenna system. a good antenna will have a much greater effect on your cb than tuning and peaking. as far as output, who knows? it all depends on the skill of the person doing the tuning. be warned that any output over 4 watts is illegal and you could recieve hefty fines if caught with an illegal radio.

The Cobra 29 has always been a good talking radio and is preferred by truck driver mainly for that reason! The Connex is a great radio in it's own right but sometimes needs a little help. I would suggest a power mic and there are many to choose from but Astatic is a clear winner! My two cents for a suggestion!

There is no adjustment to turn up the carrier power in a Cobra 25 LTD. The AM Cobra's are not like the Galaxy's in that respect. All you can do is tune the output section for maximum on a meter.

some one tuned their radio to the wrong side of peak and now you have downward modulation .Try re-tuning it back to to its original settings and if you get it back don't mess with it unless you know what the shell you are doing.

My 25LTD CB has been tuned and peaked. I just replaced the meter and it spikes hard when keyed. How can I adjust it without degrading the tune?

It could be the variable resistor that sets the meter movement or it could be the person that tuuned and peaked it didn't know what they were doing and set a high dead key. The radio should key low and then swing high. You must first track down which one is the problem. You will need a good watt meter for that. If it isn't a problem with too high a dead key then go to CBtricks and look up your model of radio and find the "VR" variable resistor that sets the meter. Open up the radio and turn the resistor to match the meter scale with what the watt meter reads.

How do i tune my cobra 29

Depends on what you mean by "Tune"

If you are talking about aligning the radio, you need the factory service manual, a watt meter, volt meter and oscilloscope to align the radio.

If you are talking about a peak and tune, that all depends on what you want. If you are just trying to peak it out, the easiest thing to do with out having to know about what you are doing is to turn the modulation to max. In that radio you do that by turning VR4 all the way to the left. That will get you around 20 to 25 watts of modulation.

There is more you can do, but it gets technical. But over all you will be pleased with just the modulation increased.

Some times people have the radio tuned to be run on an amp, which is necessary so that you do not blow up the amp. This involves un-soldering parts and replacing them with other parts to achieve the desired dead key.

Take off the cover, you will need a watt meter or mod meter to do this. On the circuit board, part side up, look for D11, and cut one end of it, hook up meter, key the mike and with a peaking or tuning tool, while saying aaahhhhhhh in a long and steady voice, tune L12,L13,L14 for highest peak, you can get the tool there also..put cover back on and enjoy.....hope this helps...

Cobra 18 wx st rf/s-meter does not function

to be sure that u dont burn yr radio try to check yr swr with an external meter to be mounted between the radio and the antenna and check if it works! good luck.

Cobra 29 ltd classick tuning

Here is a link to the Phantom CB's seb site, you can click on the brand of radio you want to peak, in you case, Cobra. Then follow through the chart to the Cobra 29 LTD Classic under the Cobra power mods, which tells you what to adjust and changes that can be made. Only one suggestion I have before you start, where it says to cut D11, don't, only turn up VR-4 for your modulation. That is the only thing I don't like with their instuctions is telling people to cut the modulation limiter. You can get full modulation by turning up the potentiometer, and if you cut the limiter, sometimes it will over modulate.

You need an inline power meter to peak the radio out. This is the quick and dirty way to peak and tune a radio. To properly align a radio, you really need an oscilloscope and other related test equipment.
