Hello Everyone,
I'm Vishal from India. I had someone get me brand new Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers from the US for me. They worked fine over there but when i used them here using a 220 Volts to 110 Volts converter, I do not hear any sound.
When I turn them on I see a Red LED, however, the manual says that when powered on the LED should be blue. Also, if I plug in the headphones in the satellite speakers, I can hear the sound via the headphones but no matter how loud i turn the volume on the speakers or on my pc from where the sound is coming, the speakers do not emit any sound.
Please help!
Thanks,
~Vishal Trivedi
If the speakers are brand new it makes me wonder how you know they worked fine in the States? I am also wondering how they were transported due to them probably being intolerant to extremes of temperature/humidity and probably vibration.
I am also wondering if you are using the correct supply voltage and type of supply.
If you are using the power adaptor supplied for use in the USA, it would probably be incompatible with your supply even though you are using a transformer.
If you are certain the speakers are in good order I suggest you obtain a power adaptor designed for your 220 volt 50Hz supply. I have browsed a little and cannot find a note of the power requirements for the integrated amplifier but this is presumably marked on the adaptor, the speaker or in the manual and so the power adaptor could be checked on and off load with a suitable voltmeter. I would be surprised to learn the supply is adequate

There is a fuse on the power supply board which is held in place with 4 screws. Yiu will have to unplug the sub-woofer connector to remove it.

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", Administrative Tools, Computer Management, click on "Device Manager" on the left hand side and look on the right hand side. See if you have a yellow exclamation next to the "Sounds, Video and Game Controllers". If yes, double-click on the line with the exclamation and then click on the driver tab at the top. Click update driver and when it asks if you would like to to check the internet for updated drivers, tell it yes, this time only and continue. After this process, it should either download and install a new driver for your sound card or install the one that was shipped with your computer. If this does not work, please let me know and we will check the next possible problem.
Please remember to rate this solution.

Check the audio amplifiers Ic´s maybe are burned
SOURCE: I plugged my 110 volts Altec Lansing speakers into
Check fuse, but if there wasn't a fuse , your Altec need repaired to fix broken components in power circuits, could be the resistors, diodes or even transformer.
I'm afraid they are faulty. If you are experienced then you will need to replace the capacitors on the amplifier PCB, else get some new ones!
