Wireless???? Ok so I fixed my problem with my audio! Now I have another "bump". There is no wireless. When I go to device manager it just says ethernet controller. When I try to update the driver, it says it can't be done. Does anyone know where the driver update for this is?

Dear cure4sanity

You are probably best off going to the following URL

http://www.driverguide.com

check out this site, you may have to fill out a registration form, but the site is free to use and download from.

Failing this, you can go to
http://www.google.com
http://www.google.co.uk

Here just ennter your make and model of laptop, followed by the words driver download, and then you should throw up some results here.

If this fails, then ou can download these free utilities from the internet that install a program on your computer in order for you to automatically go on the internet and download the appropriate driver. I cannot remember exactly what the program is called, but it is something like driver hunter or something like ths (sorry im not a great deal of help on this one) and this will sort your issue out for you. It might also be best to grab hold of a copy of regclean, just to make sure your registry is not corrupted in any way before you get the driver.

I hope this s the fixya for you, and please do leave feedback or information of how you got on (any is good) and i wish you the best of luck.

Kindest regards

Yours sincerely

Oz

My wlan will not enable

Check that wireless service is running
XP: Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.
7 (vista): Click Start, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "WLAN AutoConfig" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.

To enable wireless adapter we need to go to device manager and enable it.
XP:
1. Right click on My Computer and click on properties.
2. Click on Hardware tab on system properties window.
3. Click on Device Manager
To go to device manager we need to click on the device manager button.
Now we can see all the hardware devices connected to the computer. To see the status of our wireless adapter click on network adapters.
4. Enable the Wireless adapter
To enable wireless adapter, right click on it and click on enable.
7 (vista):
  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start button. Click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click on Network and Internet.
  3. In the Network and Internet panel, click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. In the Network and Sharing Center, click "Manage network connections" in the Tasks list on the left side of the window.
  5. The Network Connections manager will open. Right-click the icon labeled Wireless Network Connection and click Enable on the menu displayed.

The last step checks if you have the wireless switch on or off. Locate the wireless button (in the middle, above the keyboard). Try to toggle it, see if is says anything.

Did you see the wireless signal or your network status in the computer with the wireless adaptor?
If yes, select your wireless network and connect your device.

If no, check the status of your wireless card first
My PC >> Properties >> Hardware >> Device Manager >> Network

If the wireless is marked ( ! ) Install the right driver for your wireless card

If ok, try to set up your wireless connection with windows wireless utility instead of HP utility.
(if necesary uninstall HP utility)

If the firewall can't be fixed this issue is related to your antivirus that it is blocking the setting.

My HP wireless doesn't work? I don't have wireless connection on my compaq laptop anymore.

check your wireless adapter is on... the switch is on the front of your laptop and you should show a blue light when it's on, also go into device manager and see network adapters.. you should have 2 (the wire one built-in and your wireless network adapter.. if you only have one network adapter, check the front and see if the light indicating the status of your wireless network adapter is amber.. (if it's showing amber and you're sure it's in the on position you may have a motherboard problem and you may need to send the system back (I just had one of those with a compaq computer and since the item was within warranty the fixed in a week)

if your wireless adapter light is blue and you see your wireless adapter in device manager follow this instructions and you should be ok,
