my brother mfc 7860 tells me i have a jam when i print envelopes only- there is no jam and will print the next 'page' fine- have to turn it on and off 4-5 times to get it to print one- any ideas anyone???
This means there may be a paper or object like a paper clip inside the printer. Have you just had a paper jam? Open the unit and inspect for paper or an object. Follow the directions in the manual regarding saving any unprinted faxes, then disconnect power for ten seconds. Plug the unit back in. It should be working. If not, it needs service at a Printer service Center
If you clear the memory, any faxes stored will be also be erased. This solution assumes that you have the fax storage option "On" to store faxes in memory.
On the control panel:
1) Press <Menu>
2) Use <Up> or <Down> arrow keys until "Fax" appears on the display, press <OK>
3) Use <Up> or <Down> until "Remote Fax Option" or "Advanced Fax Operation" appears, press <OK>
4) Use <Up> or <Down> until "Off" appears, then press <OK>
5) You will be prompted: "Erase all fax?" 1. Yes 2. No
Usually this is caused by a foreign object or debris under the printhead path, or under where the printhead "parks."
Unplug the machine. Open the cover. Check the printhead path for little bits of paper, push pins, paperclips, staples etc. Note the location of the printhead.
If the printhead is at the far left, gently slide it towards the center (do not force it). Look carefully under where the printhead was stopped for debris. Use a flashlight if necessary.
Review page 65 in your manual. Changing the "Advanced Fax Operations:"
If received faxes are left in your machine's memory when you change the Advanced Fax Operations, the LCD will ask you one of the following questions:
Erase All Fax? Yes - Press 1 No - Press 2
Print All Fax? Yes - Press 1 No - Press 2
• If you press 1, faxes in the memory will be erased or printed before the setting changes. If a backup copy has already been printed it will not be printed again. • If you press 2, faxes in the memory will not be erased or printed and the setting will be unchanged.
- go to Start/Printers and Faxes
- right click the printer
- select Printing Preferences
- choose Inkjet Paper as the Media Type
Mine was set to Plain Paper. I'm not sure if it "magically" changed when I changed the cartridges but setting it to Inkjet Paper did the trick.
I did this after replacing all the cartridges and reinstalling the printer. Try this first and save yourself the money of the cartridges and the hassle of reinstalling.
paper comes out all dark with striations
