My magic chef freezer will freeze for a day and then the temperature will increase to 70 degrees. The freezer is just two years old. Is it worth having someone to come out and look at it or is it something I can do myself. When I plug it back up everything sounds like it is running properly.

This is a manual defrosting freezer so the most likely cause is the temp control. Sad that is is only 2 years old but the temp control is not working correctly.

It sure sounds like it is running until it cycles off at the "I reached the cold enough" SET TEMP then never starting up again. That start up is controlled by the temp control. Call and make SURE the temp control is called the thermostat!

    I have a Magic Chef freezer built older than 20 years. 15.2 cu. ft. pt. no. 101403-1

    Hello Darrell;

    My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician.

    Why do you think your Magic Chef is still working after 20 years? Your unit was manufactured with reliable cast steel components.
    Do you want to purchase a new unit with more efficiency with components manufactured with plastic and cast ceramic. If you do decide to purchase a more efficient unit, do not discard your well build Magic Chef. When the new unit fails after 5 years, you will always have the older well built unit.

    Magic chef freezer temperature indicator light on, not usually on?

    Is it a red light? If so it's not reaching temperature (the alarm is about -12c) If it's a yellow light, you've accidentally switched on "fast freeze". If it's a green light it's just the power supply light.

    I have a small magic chef freezer that opens from the top. I has about 3 or 4 cu. ft. of freezer space. Lately a buzzer has been going off every 15 or 20 minutes. It buzzes for about 5-10 seconds and then...

    With the time as the compressor gets old the buzzing will increased, its not a bid deal, just set the thermostat to 1 during the winter, saves you energy and give the compressor more time to rest.

    My Magic Chef chest freezer stopped cooling, slowly, over two weeks. I emptied, unplugged, defrosted, cleaned coils, and powered up again. Red light is on, won't cool. Guessing freon or compressor...

    Sounds like slow Freon leak. You might get an estimate over the phone before calling a technician, but I would think a 3-year old box is worth repairing. If the estimate is close to the replacement cost, that might not be the case.

    Freezer used as a frige?

    it may be possible. Turn the temperature on the lowest setting and see what happens. If it still freezes everything up then it is not posible. If it doesn't freeze everything , then check the temperature with any temp probe. It should run at somewhere between 36 and 38 degrees. This is the normal cool setting on a refrigerator.

    MCCF7W Runs, but won't freeze....

    Sounds like the refrigeratnt has leaked out. It is not worth repairing. The only other possibility is the cold control but I would not buy one until a servicer has looked at it.

    Age of appliance

    At some point, you just have to decide if you want it or not. I can't tell you anything about it. If your friend bought it used, ask how long she's had it and estimate at least 5-10 years older than that. If it looks good, and it works good, and the price is right...... I have one similar to the one that you are considering out in my garage. Bought it at a yard sale...$40.00. Not too pretty, maybe from too many moves....Works fine, but if it died tomorrow, I have had my money's worth.
