26" protron TV was purchesed 14 months ago - while watching just went out -did not go back on so we unplugged it -after a week we plugged it back in and it worked for a day-we repeated above again with the samr results-this has been like tis for 2 months now each time staying on less-now when it comes on it works for 1 hour-i checked the cord and power supply but it seems to be an internal cut-off-i have theback off but with-out knowing what to look for im lost-would appreciate some help-thanks

A capacitor shorted (popped) in the power supply then the fuse blew (went black) unplug TV, remove back cover, look for power supply; follow cord to it; find small silver can with top bubbled (bad)
unsolder/replace; replace fuse. plug in turn on.

Symptoms of a Defective or dying Power supplies on LCD TVs.
1. Light(s) on the front panel are behaving not normal example, blinking, amber color or not steady, fainting, etc.
2. TV not turning ON properly.
3. TV turns OFF by itself.
4. Needs to be unplug to many times to make it work.
5. Humming or high pitch noise heard through speakers or at the back of the TV.

Hi jnks2005, We need to check your backlight, while tv is on and you have sound, take a flashlight and shine it on the screen, look very close and see if you can see a dark video image, If so you have a bad backlight inverter. You can try to unplug your tv for a couple of hours and let it reset but it is most likely the inverter. Let me know what you see and I can help you locate parts and instruct the replacement. on the back of the TV where the power cord plugs into the back of the tv there is a small black on/off switch- it's not as obvious as you would think.... but that was turned off. Not sure how that happened since the back of the Tv was never touched when it went dead- but I unplugged the cord from the back of the tv and from the outlet and reset that switch and it worked.

If your TV is not turning ON, the power supply is defective. It's a bit hard to find service parts for these TVs, the only way to fix the power supply is to replace the defective parts.

if your tv is up high try to lower it mine did the same thing but after i set it closer to the ground it stopped and hasnt done it since..

I had a pwer supply for my Protron 32 inch TV that was not working. I bought the one on ebay and it stopped working after only three weeks. Ultimately I found a guy who could fix my original power supply for a reasonable price. It been working for a year now with no problems. I wish I would have tried him first!!!!
