Sounds like the sound inputs have been reassigned to another input-

You'll ideally need the instructions to give a fuller idea of how you adjust these and all the options it gives you

This receiver, sounds system and television were left in the home I moved into, so unfortunately I do not have any directions. The sound for the TV works when I change the selector to DVD but no tv picture, also a movie in the DVD player works fully. I just cannot seem to get sound when it's on TV and showing a tv program. It just seems like I am just one setting away from it working properly. Thank you for taking the time to look at my question.

What input do you press for DVD? not the dvd input?

I think you will need to look at what leads connect dvd tv and amp together to work out which inputs should be doing what.
The DVD cold be connected direct to the tv with a scart or it could be wired through the Denon.
So a list of what leads go where would help me to work it out.
To get tv sound through the Denon will require at least an audio lead coming back down from the tv into the Denon so start with that. ~If it has 2phono/rca leads or an optic fibre check what input they go into on the Denon.
Equally you may be saying Tv sound when its actually a cable or satellite box you are using for the tv picture...so that lead would have to come from that box not the tv.

Don't forget I haven't got a list of what you have got other than the Denon so I can't be fully sure yet. Andrew

I have denon avr 987 receiver i messed up settings somehow. when i have receiver set to dolby digital tv i get sound, but no picture. if i switch the setting to DBS i get picture buy no sound. what did...

Are your DD TV and DBS referring to the same source device or are they separate, say, cable Box and Sat Box?

Start over with the digital audio assignments for wherever you plugged in the digital audio cable from (guessing) your Cable TV box (recommended as "TV" is not usually a great source for audio).

The manual:

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Denon-AVR-987-Receivers-manual/id/696dj079/t/2/

You might also want to define the specific cabling of things if more is required. Exact point-to-point paths and cable styles for audio and video.

Denon avr-587

Make sure that the volume is not muted or too low on the TV...the TV volume output to your receiver will be performing the function of a pre-amp to your receiver. Then select the appropriate input on the receiver that you have the TV audio connected to.

Video does not work All this while, I had never used the video components of my AVR 1705. Recently, i wanted to connect the component out of the cable set top box and dvd player to the avr and the output...

Hi
The settings on many DVD players and TVs may need to be set to indicate the type of input/output being used(RGB vs YUV/YPbPr, and if set wrong the image may not be properly displayed. Try Look for such settings in your TV and/or Amp!

Good luck

Denon AVR-1705 Missing Video Functions?

Hello,

What you need to do is connect all your devices to the Denon Using the best connections (Yellow Video=OK, S-Video=good, Component green-red-blue=better and HDMI=best. if you do not have a DVD that upconverts to 1080i or p when using HDMI, I would use component cables where available from your devices to the Denon other wise use the next best connection available and if connecting digital audio make a chart of all connection so you can setup everything when your ready for programming the Denon

Denon avr-1907 sound from TV stopped working

Help with hooking PS3 to a Denon Receiver. It worked before, but I had to move everything to a different location and when I hooked it back up the PS3 has sound but no picture. I have it hooked directly to the receiver with and HDMI cable (the receiver is hooked up to our cable box which is directly hooked to the tv via HDMI cable).

Denon AVR 1705-no audio on TV

I have had the same problem and was told that it is a "board" inside. Essentially it has lost the surround sound ability and can only play things in Direct/Stereo. Mine is just over 2 years and I originally thought my kids had hit a button on the thing causing the issue...ended up paying $100 to trouble shoot it and confirm that it is internal and more expensive to fix than replace. Can't say that I will be buying a Denon again.
