Dear 68jph

Right your problem either stems from the menu settings that are incorrect/ silent mode, or your speakers are damaged, the other option is that no sound output is being achieved through any speakers you fit (this is a more serious problem).

Now depending on your type of fault cause, will depend on how technically and electronically minded you will have to be, and also on cost factor (whether it is a finacial interest to spend repairing the unit, or replacing it).

Now firstly, i would check your sound settings in the menu and also turn your volume dial, button/ switch on to full. Although this is plainly obious, it is surprising how many times a simple issue like this is overlooked in favour of a more serious fault, and for no reason at all.

Next up, i would remove the speakers and test the unit on another set of speakers of the same output, if the test speakers work, then the original speakers from your unit MUST BE discarded or overhauled. now discarding them is the easier option because of cost, but you can take them to a place that will recycle them, or post them to the centre in question.

Lastly, if you have a circuit board issue, then this is potentially critical, and the cost and time to repair the unit may often be outweighed by the cost and ease of just condemning the unit and replacing it, now if you do condemn the product, you can always make some money back towards the cost of a new product by putting the faulty device on an online auction.

Now if you do decide to repair this yourself, start by checking wwww.google.com and seeing what others have to say about the product, and also look for the service/ repair manuals for this manufactured product.

I wish you best of luck in whatever of these decisions you decide to take, and if you need further advice or assistance, then please do not hesitate to contact me,

best regards

yours sincerely

Replacing minijack

I use a multimeter to check the connections to the ear pieces. I set it to the diode function. The meter's test probes also have a very low dc voltage and this causes a 'click' sound in the working earpiece. Some earphones have 3 wires, others have 4 wires. In the 3-wire setup, one wire is the common wire. It goes to the ground connection of the mini plug. The 'click' sound on the left ear piece should go to the tip of the connector. The 'click' sound that you get on the right ear piece should be soldered to the 'ring' of the mini plug. The 4-wire type of earphone/ headphones cable usually have two wires that are the same colour. These are the ground or common connections for both right and left. I hope that this helps. A multimeter or vom is a necessity. Len.

My dog chewed on earphone and the sound is all crackly. Is it possible to get one fixed and what would it cost?

HI. If your dog chewed on the actual hardware and wire strands, this will not be repairable. The strands that carry the actual sound data stream have been compromised and separated from the main strand that runs through the ear piece. This type of trauma cannot be repaired, unfortunately. You will need to replace the entire ear piece set. I can understand that you want to repair and not replace, but this will be the only option in your case. You will need to replace the entire ear piece set or deal with that deteriorating sound quality.

EAR PIECE REPLACEMENT

How to check and correct a bad Ear Piece

Equipments Needed
Digital and Analog Meter

Procedures to Follow
Step 1: Check and read your ear piece to see if it's good
Step 2: Check if the terminal is connected on the board interface.
Step 3: If it is not connected, clean well and make it connect.
Step 4: Read the board interface to see if it is reading continually, if it isn't, loop for sound.
Step 5: If it's a flip up phone and the phone interface is not reading, you have to replace the flex to obtain sound.

Take care

Ipaq lost sound

Do you usually use the handsfree ear piece? Try pluggin in the handsfree ear piece and see if you can hear something. The 6515 has a known issue with the system where by the phone thinks its in handsfree ear piece mode when there isnt a ear piece plugin.
Try pluging and unpluggin the ear piece until it works
