Sony Tuner KV-20TS27 loses signal

Hi,

I have a Sony Trinitron KV-20TS27 from 1991. After I turn it on and plug the TV Cable everything seems fine. After 1 minute it loses the signal and shows snow.

Still there seems to be some weak signal on channels 69 or 88. I think this are some kind of local channels. When the TV Cable works, channel 69 shows something else while 88 has nothing.

I think the TV is switching from TV Cable to local stations after 1 minute, but it does not switch back.

Thanks,
Ray

Hi,

Either that of your tuner block is acting up. Most Sonys of this production year uses a tuner block that requires 33VDC tuning supply. It has been known for this zener to fail or the capacitor parallel to it. At times, it could just be the tuner block itself.

Should you venture a DIY, it would be to your advantage to have access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.. It further requires familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Should you be uncomfortable going this route, then perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

20" sony trinitron KV-20fs100 no signal

Hi,

If you have confirmed that there is cable signal but the Sony TV does not sense it, then perhaps the problem is internal to the TV. Primary suspect would be the tuner block/assy and/or its B+ supply. Often there would be two (2) voltages required; 12VDC & a 33VDC (varying). In some instances it could just be the zener diode.

The above of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

20" sony trinitron KV-20fs100 no signal

It is very possible that the tuner and IF modules have failed. On more rare occasions, the supply voltage to these modules may be missing because of failed components in the regulator circuit that feeds the front end area.

Some other areas of failure can be the uPC controler may not be addressing the front end functions, or the input switching control is not working properly.

The mentioned problems would require an experienced TV tech who has the service manuals, and the tools and facilities to troubleshoot and service your set.

If you decide to have the set serviced ask for an estimate. It may be expensive to fix.

No signal

Check is RF Antena/ Cable connected? If yes, go to TV Menu and select Auto-Program. TV will start tuning and search all available channels on cable/ on-air. If there is no channel reception, TV has defective Tuner. If you know basic electronics knowledge, replace the Tuner or contact nearest Sony repair shop.

Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-24FS120 24" TV Color changes

Try turning down (off) the color during such an episode. If the image is tinted pink or green instead of black and white when you do this, you have either an intermittent short in your CRT (tube), which is terminal,or a gun drive problem, which may be repairable. If you're feeding it component instead of composite signal,it may just be a bad connection of the B-Y cable.
