Sony tv only loses color on digital cable premium channels
My sony tv is 13 years old, and I have never had a problem with it. I have had Comcast digital cable with all the premium move channels in the past and also never had a problem.
Recently, after moving to a new house, I added the HBOs and STARZs to a digital lineup that I had for a while which already included the Encores. Now when watching some of any of those movie channels, the tv will go B&W for about 30 sec, and then go back to color, then BW, then color, and so on.
I do not have any issues with an of the channels that are not premium channels and did not used to have any issue with the Encores. THe problem is most persistent with the primary channel - HBO-East, Starz-East, and Encore-East, but it does happen to some, but not all, of the others in those families.
I thought the issue was the cable signal as the problem seemed to to happen more frequently when I was using the Comcast VOIP phone. Today, the tech checked my signal, we did some rewiring in case there was interference. We also switched the box again as he said this is usually a box problem. None of this has helped. I had already tried all of the cable box outputs, which didn't make a difference.
Tonight I hooked up the box to a portable color tv along with the sony tv and noticed that when the sony went BW, the other tv did not. So now I am thinking that it may be the tv.
But, how can a TV not be able to process only certain channels while it has no trouble with any other channels or other inputs, like DVDs or DVRs?
Another little note - I also noticed that the picture is crooked since moving the TV. The letterbox and channel guides sag a bit to the right.
So how does a bad tuner not function correctly for only a few premium cable channels? How can a tuner tell the difference, especially when I have multiple tuners on that tv and they all have the same symptom? And really, I am not tuning in the channels, I am passing thru the cable tuner to the tv as a monitor.More depth please -

Cocast may have only transmitting NTSC Ch 2~13 only for your area, to get more channel you may have to use Comcast cable box, I am in bay area, I can get 2~35 for basic plus service, I can get 2~13 for the most simple service for less money. What is your serivce level you are paying for?
Your TV also anly has NTSC tuner, there is no QAM or ATSC turner.

You may have to call Comcast.
How is TV audio (from the cable box) getting into the Receiver? If digitally, you wouldn't be missing any one channel on a connection malfunction, you'd lose them all. If analog, swap the channels around to isolate the problem (and reconsider using digital).
make it sure that the coaxial cable has its own signal! if your tv has a raster (sometimes blue) and it says that the tv is good, but if there's no channel at all then the problem is in digital converter or the connection of the coaxial cable comes from..you can also try auto programing but if the problem still occured then contak your cable subscription channel
Audiovox VE1020 is not a digital set. To see digital broadcast you will need another digital reciever or a long lead to connect to your existing one.
This set does not have very good reviews either.
