Driver HX-DU010EC

A USB hard drive is a portable external storage device that works just like a conventional hard drive.

The device is simply plugged into a USB port on your computer as you would connect a flash drive.

Unlike a flash drive, however, a USB hard drive can store a much larger amount of data.

If your computer will not recognize your USB hard drive, you can try troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the port on your hard drive and plug the other end into the USB port of your computer. Ensure that both ends of the cable are connected securely.

Open "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista/7).

The USB device should be listed as "removable disk" once it is plugged into the computer.

If it is not listed among the available drives on your computer, proceed to the next step.

Ensure that the data cable is working properly.

Sometimes they become faulty due to overstretching age or heavy objects sitting on top of them.

Try another USB cable if you have one available.

Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer as they may interfere with the operating system detecting the external hard drive.

Reboot the computer if the USB hard drive is still not recognized.

Plug the USB cable into another USB port and check to see if the device is detected.

If you are using a USB hub, remove the device and plug the external hard drive directly into a USB port.

If the computer still fails to recognize the device, the external hard drive itself may be experiencing a hardware problem.

Check the status of the hard drive in the "Device Manager" window. Under Windows XP, right click "My Computer" and select "Device Manager."

For Windows Vista and Windows 7, click the "Windows" button in the lower left corner of the screen, then type "Computer Management" in the search bar and press "Enter."

Select "Device Manager" in the "Computer Management" window. In the Device Manager window, click the "+" sign that appears beside "Disk Drives."

If the external drive is not listed, click "Other Devices" in the Device Manager window and see if an "Unknown Device" appears.

Windows 7

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.

In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

If the hard drive that has failed is the same one that you are trying to recover from might the reason that you are getting this error.

This could be an issue where the part of the hard drive you are trying to access is corrupt and not accessible which would explain the reason that it would let you access the other partition.

Now I have seen cases where Malware can break the link of a Hard Drive.

So let's try a couple of steps.

Let's go back in to "Disk Management"

Lets right click on the partition that you are not able to access and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths"

Now try selecting a new Drive Letter.

This will restore the path if it has been broken.

The external hard drive may have been detected but the device is not working properly.

If it is still under warranty, take the device to the computer store where it was purchased to have it repaired or replaced.

Hope this helps

The computer won't boot Windows 7. It starts up fine, with the fans running with the LED lights on. Then I get an error message: "CD-ROM Boot Priority ..No Medium" I have checked the bios of...

It sounds like either Windows 7 did not install properly or you have a bad hard drive. I did some research on similar problems and most people have also tried to change the boot priority with no luck. If your are tech savvy I would try to run hard drive diagnostics and possibly reinstall Windows 7. If you are not very technical I would suggest taking it to a competent pc repair technician.

I have a lot of info that I need on my Flash drive but every time I put my Flash Drive in my computer or the other computer in the living room, it always says. You need to format the disk drive J: before...

Better you check the drive at your neighbours system (should have original antivirus) and scan for any viruses...

My better advice is dont keep any valuable info on your flash drives better make always a backup...

and always do safely remove of your flash drives (a green arrow at the right bottom of the screen)

if there is no possible way to connect the drive then try to recover your valuable data with stellar recovery centres...

"Plsase insert a disk in the drive" message for USB drive

Up to you,, if you put a flash drive into your USB port, and windows see's the drive, because its listed under my computer, but when you go to open the drive it says, please insert disk

This is telling you the flash drive has failed.

The only good thing is, if you have anything on the drive, there are programs that will extract the data from the drive so you don't lose it.

You have three options,

Extract the data that is on the drive.

Try a repair program, which can erase the drive when it tries ti repair it.

Send the flash drive to the company for repair.

I would like to scratch-install the new WINDOWS 7 on the TOSHIBA P105-S6114. Is this okay? Are there any problems I may encounter?

Hello,

ecommended Windows 7 Installation Method SelectionToshiba provides support for installing Windows 7 on laptops built since 2007. Depending on your model, Toshiba recommends using one of the following software tools as part of the Windows 7 installation process, to support ongoing use of Toshiba provided features and functionality:

  • Toshiba Software Installer for Windows 7, for performing a Custom Installation of Windows 7 ("clean install") on laptops made 2007-2009
Find your laptop's serial number on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, note the second character in that serial number, then click on the matching link in the list below for instructions on Toshiba's recommended Windows 7 installation method for your model.
For all laptops made since January 1, 2007*
When upgrading from Windows Vista (not a Custom or "clean" Install)
  • if the second character of your laptop's serial number is 7 or 8, click here.
  • if the second character of your laptop's serial number is 9, click here.
When upgrading from Windows XP, or doing a Custom Install ("clean install") from any operating system
  • if the second character of your laptop's serial number is 7, 8, or 9, click here.
  • if the second character of your laptop's serial number is not 7, 8, or 9 then it was manufactured prior to 2007.*
* Installation of Windows 7 is not supported by Toshiba for laptops made prior to 2007.
