I have an RCA HD52W59 HDTV and my kids were watching the other day and all of a sudden the screen went bad. The sound is ok and you can still see the picture however it looks like your watching in 3D without the 3D glasses. I called a support # and the lady said it could be a convergence issue such as convergence board failed. The top of the screen is bowed down and the bottom of the screen is bowed up. I bought the TV in late 2006 and we only have it on at night time so it is not used alot. Any ideas what the problem could be?

This is normally an easy fix. I've fixed several of these. When you get the back off of the set, there are 3 small square brown fuses located at the back left corner of the set, if looking at it from the back. They are located next to the right side of the flyback transformer( the large gray or black thing sticking up with the thick red wire coming out of the top). One of those fuses will be open and needs to be replaced, and the pins on the flyback transformer need to be resoldered on the bottom of the board. They will come loose and make the fuse blow. This will fix the problem 95% of the time on this set.

I have a 32" RCA

Hello
According to you, your RCA TV has went off while watching it. As there is no sound or picture at all, and the power kicks, the fault must be to its horizontal out section. The horizontal output section have LOT [Line Output Transformer] and related parts in it. Your TV must be chcked well to detect the actua fault. Normally, the LOT said above can be faulty, otherwise, the horizontal output transistor, the device that drive the LOT may also damaged. If this transistor gets leaky, the secondary main power DC supply will get a direct short, and the set will come on protection mode as we switch it ON. Here, according to you, this is happening. Just replace the horizontal output transistor first and see the effect. It is a three terminal component, screwed on to a metal heatsink, and can be located very near to the above said LOT.
After replacing it, switch On your TV, for a while, say 5 seconds or so, and if a whisiling sound is heard, and the replaced transistor over heats, the LOT said above is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.

Rca hdtv 52inch will play fine then picture goes black but still has sound.. after a few mins.picture will come back on , and will play fine could last all day or may go out again in a few mins.

My tv is relatively new, but the bad thing is that I had an old; big screen tube type rca model; home theatre, that was heavier than a car, and it went out, due to the cracking and popping sound, off sometimes, and back on.
What is strange is the new tv now, the hdtv, light weight, about five years old, is doing the same thing. Actually, now, the power will not even come on. The lcd green light in the front goes on and off.
Take no offense, but I thought I would not have these problems anymore. What do you suggest?

All of a sudden the picture went out and there is no sound on my RCA HD52w59 it is 4 years old

Thats usually a problem with the deflection board. You can get a replacement deflection board from www.tvrepairworld.com call them if you dont know which board your model uses.

RCA 52 BIG SCREEN MODEL# P52811LV,Sound OK but no picture.

It is likely a problem with the convergence power supply - to confirm the board would have to be checked for open fuse and bad diodes

TV wont turn on, makes buzzing noise and shuts off

I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
