Ps2 i have a ps2 bought and chipped in portugal wont play some down load games

try a WET cleaning disk

If your PS2 works fine with most of the games and won’t play a few..Then you should try this trick to play them too on your PS2:

1. Turn on your PS2 without inserting any disc.
2. Menu screen will appear like:
3. Press the (triangle) Button to enter Version Information Menu that looks like
4. Highlight the Play Station Driver as above and again press (triangle).
5. New screen will appear like
6. Highlight the Disc Speed as above and press X button,to enter Disc Speed Menu
7. And set it from Standard to "Fast".
8. After you set Disc Speed to Fast, Press and Hold Reset Button to turn off your console.
9. Then again Press and Hold Reset Button till the Blue Light turns on.
10. Remove the Reset Button and Press it again.

Be patient and wait till the game loads itself. If your lens is in good condition then it will play game in first go else try again till it PLAY your game. If still your Grand Turismo 4 DVD wont work then you must clean your PS2 lens.Watch following video to learn about cleaning lens:

No there isn't any mod chip for the PS3 as of yet

That is strange how the boot-up sequence can change. When You bought it, it sounds like it got mod-chipped when you bought it. if are one on the techy side of life then you can open your ps2 and look for one (google mod chip). Also the chance of one being there is higher because it can play copied games. Even though you bought it with the copied games, 1) copied games are illegal, and , 2) PS2's shouldn't be able to play copied games cause it wasn.t designed too.

First check if u have a chip in ur console which can play pierated dvds .
If u dont have that chip u can get it fited in your console.
This chips helps to play any kind of DvD .

This seems to be the regional codes problem.For this you have to Modified your PS2 console with the modification chip.After installation of MODIFIED CHIP this problem must be solve. If you can do this then just check the link below.

Hey buddy FORMAT DISC means PAL games or NTSC games format.

There are 2 formats dics in this world for the PS1,PS2,PSP,Wii,Gamecube.etc

They are [NTSC] and [PAL]

[NTSC] is for North America and Japan ONLY. [NTSC] is Original games.

[PAL] is for Asia Only. Which is copied games form the Originals.

I need to know were did you bought PS2 Console from ?

If you bought it in North America or Japan then you have to buy and play Original games from North America Only.

If you bought your PS2 in Asia then you can play copied games.

It is most likely your PS2 is a NTSC, your PS2 cant read any PAL games so it will say format dics.

are you using a mod chip or something

You have to disable the region lock by installing a so called "mod chip". This is a microprocessor (PIC Micro) that is wired inside the PS" or othe game consoles. There should be stores in your place that offer this service.
