Change 3 prong dryer cord to 4 prong

What do I do with the green ground wire attached to the dryer once I attach the green wire from the power cord to the ground connection? I tried to remove the green wire attached to the dryer but it is clamped to the white middle wire. Can I connect both green wires to the ground connection?

My wife is getting a new washer and dryer and donating the old set to our son for his new apartment. The problem....our house and old dryer is wired for 3 prongs. The apartment has a 4 prong outlet. That means the 20 year old dryer must be change to a 4 prong power cord and the new dryer must be adapted for our house's 3 prong outlet. How big an issue is this adaptation for both dryers? Can a novice handle the adaptation? Regards, All Thumbs

Kenmore 700 dryer with a three prong cord is being converted to four prong. Is there a drawing of what wires by color going to the proper screw location?

There's a ground strap wire (green/yellow) attached to the dryer cabinet and connected to the center terminal where the white neutral wire of the power cord is connected. Disconnect this ground strap wire and remove the 3-prong power cord from the terminal block taking note where the wires are connecedt to. Connect the 4-prong power cord in the same way same wire colors of the 3-prong cord are connected to the terminal block. Connect the ground strap wire to the remaining fourth wire (green/yellow). Just do the reverse when converting 4-prong to 3-prong. The link below might enlighten you further on this matter.

Need to change the power corrd to a 4 prong from the 3 prong but the 3 prong cable isnt color coordinated, how do I hook up the new power cord?

The new cord has a green ground wire; two hot wires, which are black and red; and a white neutral wire. Attach the neutral to the middle connector and the two hot wires to either end of the terminal.
In order to safely ground the machine the green ground wire must be securely connected to the dryer frame. There may be a screw on the frame where you can attach the ground.

I was given the dryer, and the cord unattached. I want to be sure I attach them correctly. The cord has three prongs and ther are three holes for attachment. Where should the grounding be atached?

For a 3-pronged cord, the ground (nuetral) is the middle wire on the cord and is attached to the middle terminal post. the outside wires are attached to the outside posts. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which side.
On 4-pronged cords, there is a fourth green wire that is attached the unit's case for grounding purposes. Which cord you use is dictated by what power outlet you have, 3 or 4-pronged.
If I can help anymore, please let me know.

Changing from 3 to 4 wire hookup on a electric dryer:
Power cord help for 3 & 4 prong dryer cords
This is an example of a three wire connection dryer cord hookup. Notice that there is a ground strap connected from the common center terminal to the frame of the terminal block. Place the center wire of the cord on the center terminal [ one with the ground ******** it ] and the other two wires will be placed on the outer terminals and it doesn't matter which wire goes right or left. Get the center wire of the cord right and you are in business.
This is an example of the 4 wire dryer cord hookup. Notice that the ground strap has been removed from the terminal block frame and folded back onto the center terminal for storage. You can see the colors of the other hookups. TIP: White always to the middle.
