I have a Brother HL-5150DN. When printing envelopes from manual tray, the printer takes the envelope partially in, and then stops.

If you have done a lot of enevelopes, most likely the pickup roller got paper fibers on the roller and does not have as much traction. try cleaning the roller with isopropal alcohol if that does not help, the roller will be probably need replacing.

How to load evelopes HL 2140

Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2
When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.

Open the back cover

Open the manual feed slot cover.

Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

• Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up.
• Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
• Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
• If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.

I have a brother HL-2140/2170W Monochrome Laser Printer and don't know if I can print envelopes from this printer. It doesn't appear to have an envelope feeder.???

It can cause creased envelopes when printing on envelopes......but if you consult the manual there are fuser tension adjustment switches that solves that for perfect envelope printing (Settings, A, B and Envelope).

hi at this above site you can download your user manual, this shows you in detail exactly how to print on envelopes.

Load and print envelopes

Generally NO. The reason is they have a manual slot and rear exit that keeps the path nearly straight for things like envelopes, labels, cardstock etc so they dont have to make the turn from the tray and from the fuser to the fact down exit tray. If you need to do a mailmerge with numerous envelopes you could 1) print a sheet of labels and stick those to blank envelopes or 2) go to a more advanced machine that has envelope feeder capability. Even a used machine such as a Laserjet 4000 - you can find envelope feeders that just attach on easily for almost nothing on ebay.

It won't print - says manual feed - load paper tray. Its a brand new printer (Brother HL-4040CDN) and the paper tray is full

The printer has an "alternate" feed, i.e., for envelopes and/or for special paper.

Open the door to access that "manual" tray, take some paper from the "normal" tray, and insert the paper into the "manual" tray.

Or, on the printer's controls, set the "standard" feed, rather than the "manual" feed, and press PRINT.

Bends envelopes in printing

Most laser printers have an "S" paper path. They cannot help bending paper. I would suggest you print lables instead of envelopes if you send several letters. If you only send 1, hand address the envelope. Not elegant ut it works.

Printing envelopes

Open a MS Word Document, select 'Tools' then 'Letters and mailings' then 'Envelopes and labels...'

Envelopes and Lables dialogue box opens - ensure you are on the 'envelopes' tab

Then type your recipient address in the larger white box

for standard letter envelope (DL 220m x 110mm) - Insert envelope into Brother HL-2030 manual feed, with print side up, gummed flaps down and to the left side (bring gray plastic guides in close to secure).

Then select print.

I have found that during the feed, one end of the envelope gets a little bit crumpled but overall it's still a little bit more professional looking than my handwriting.

Can't print from the MP tray?

When you print labels or envelopes you need to select the correct tray from the print menu. (File print or ctrl P) or the printer will think the normal paper tray is being used.

You can force the printer to change the tray after the print has been sent by pressing the continue button on the printer, just make sure that the normal tray has no paper in it.

Envelope printing

You need to insert the envelope in the manual feed area and open the exit door at the back this allows the envelope to go straight through the printer hopefully limiting creasing. Check the envelope settings in windows make sure that you are using the correct size and feed selection.

Thanks J
