It seems the Red-eye reduction feature of the flash is ON. In this mode, the camera emits a pre-flash and then the actual flash discharges after a delay. Or it could be on Slow Sync. In this, the flash fires at the end of the exposure. Just go to Flash modes (the lightning-like icon) and if it is showing an eye-like icon or the word 'slow', change it to some other mode, probably the flash ON or OFF mode. Also, make sure that the batteries are fully charged.

But how are the images coming out? Do they look blurred? I hope you are referring to the low shutter speed of the camera while shooting in low light. Does the camera behave the same way when used outdoors in bright sunlight?
They are not blurred just the flash is delayed. I can't take an instant picture without a delayed flash and I don't catch the cute moment with my children. How do I fix this and make my camera not have a delay when taking a picture?
