Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Water in the bottom dw smells. It's not from wet dishes dripping. It just appears every few days.Would my disposal have something to do with it?I don't know how to take it apart to find out.

try washing without dishes with a cup of vinegar or get a product at the store call dish washer cleaner that you use it in and empty dish washer to clean and remove smell.
also could be clogged strainer in the bottom of DW then need to be cleaned out!

The dish washer is spraying particles on the dishes and slime is accumulating around the edge of the bottom front of the washer-looks like hot water is not being used but it definitely is and it is...

You are probably using to much detergent. I would clean it up and cycle a LITTLE amount of bleach through it. Then I would use vinegar on a few loads instead of DW soap. See if this clears it up at all. Then use only small amount of DW soap.

I don't beleive my sprayer arm is working on the bottom of DW

The problem is hard water and your softener must not be taken it all out. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Regular cycle no longer cleans well

Thanks for the clarification (we get a lot of people on here that don't know how to really use a dishwasher).

Sounds to me like the DW may need a through going over.

Confirm the make and model of the DW so I can see how it's built. I am suspect that with all the food particles and film you mention, that the spray heads are clogged in the spray bars, and, check that the drain hose is not kinked, and it's attachment into the garbage disposal is clear. I've had these clog before, limiting the ability of the DW to get rid of the dirty water.

Bad smell/silver tarnishes in every load/dishes not really clean

Working on it. Ran 2 heated cycles. One w light Clorox. One w vinegar. Last load had silver only very slightly yellowed. Thought it might be bacteria, so Clorox. OR residue of some kind. So vinegar.
