I just got an Insignia Pilot Mp3 player. I also bought a 2 month subscription to the Best Buy Digital Music Store/Rhapsody Music. When I went to download to rhapsody/best buy software, which I've done several times already, I get a strange message. I've even called Rhasody to try to get it resolved, but they couldn't help me either.
The message reads as follows:
Rhapsody requires an active internet connection. Please connect to the internet before continuing with Rhapsody setup. If you still receive this error message after connecting, please check your firewall and proxy settings.
I've tried turning off the firewall, and it still did not work. Rhapsody said I need to configure my McAfee Virus to allow the Rhapsody program to pass through. However, I don't know how to do this. So, if anyone can please tell me how to configure McAfee to allow Rhapsody, I would greatly appreciate it!
I recently had to do a system restore on my computer, and as a result I need to reinstall my rhapsody software now. I have been trying to do this for almost 24 hours and it is not working. I have tried everything suggested. I disabled my firewall, I set my configuration to "automatically detect settings", I changed my privacy and security settings to the lowest possible. I am running IE 8 and using AOL 9.0 to connect to the internet which is through a cable broadband connection. I have Adobe Flashplayer 10 and Windows Media Player 11 installed. I keep getting a message when I try to run the Setup of the Rhapsody software installaiton that says "Rhapsody requires an active internet connection. Please connect to the internet before continuing with Rhapsody Setup." But I am already connected to the internet and have doen everything suggested to allow access. Then I tried to sign in to Rhapsdoy Online and I could not even sign in, it would not work. Then I tried to reinstall the Rhapsody software from the Rhapsody website again, and all day today whenever I clicked the 'install software' button, it returned a screen that said 'session expired'. I dont know what is going on but it's very frustrating. I have already tried every possible suggestion from the troubleshooting manual and the live chat help. Best Buy Digital Music Store is a bust. You must go to http://www.rhapsody.com and download the latest version of their Rhapsody Software. Once installed and configured, Rhapsody may ask you to install Helix DRM but the process is automated and the setup program handles it for you quite well. Then you are off to the races!!! Good luck Grasshopper.
Within Rhapsody itself, there is an option to synchronize files to your device. You will have to use this feature with your Sansa Clip connected to the computer. Since the songs are already on the device, this will prove difficult. You may actually have to delete the songs off your player, and then reload them through Rhapsody to get them back on the player. Painful and tedious, but that is the only workaround that I know of using Rhapsody's WMA files.
A better solution would be to change your Rhapsody subscription to their Mp3 Only subscription level. It is more expensive, but the songs you download through that subscription level will continue to work, even after your Rhapsody subscription has expired. And it will never give you the message that you mentioned in your problem description, because mp3 files do not need resynchronizing b/c they do not have DRM license restrictions.
Unfortunately you are not going to be able to go online to sync your device...All music subscription such as napster and rhapsody require you to sync your device every single month using their actual software..The reason is to prevent customer from cancelling their music subscription..once you cancel your membership all the songs you have on your device will become useless. In another word, you are renting the music from the subscription company...

Okay...MacAffee is causing problems with your connection and with the download/update. You will need to right click on the MacAffee icon in the system tray (bottom right of the screen) and open the program to turn it off (or just quit the program). Also make sure your firewall is down when doing this.
Re-install BBDMS (aka Rhapsody), and allow the update to happen. Once this is complete (assuming that MacAffee is the only anti-virus software running) launch the program, connect your MP3 player, and "authorize" the player on your computer.
This should take care of the problem.
I would also recomend a different anti-virus and firewall program. AVG isn't as invasive, and PCTools firewall will allow you to configure what programs are allowed to use the internet.
Here is what is going on. All iTunes songs are in AAC format. The Insignia Pilot cannot read thos files, and the Rhapsody music service cannot read them either. You will need to redownload all of the songs that you want in Rhapsody itself. If you do not want to pay the monthly fees, then I would not download any songs from Rhapsody - they will cease to work after your Rhapsody subscription expires.
You have a couple of options. You could buy an AAC to Mp3 Converter software - this is not free, as far as I know - you also want to be careful, because some sites that advertise these products are scam artists - they don't let you try the product before buying.
Another option is to get Limewire or Morpheus - the free versions of thse services run extremely slow and give you a lot of ads, but they allow you to download Mp3 format songs for free without monthly fees.
Mp3 players just aren't as easy as they used to be.

You can thank Microsoft for creating Digital Rights Management.
Okay...I'm assuming this is an MP3 that you loaded using the Rhapsody-to-go or other music service that allows for subscription music.
What the MP3 player is telling you is that because you have subscription music and not purchased music, the DRM allows you to only play the song or songs 30-90 days after download. To continue to listen to the songs, you will need to open your Media Manager software (Best Buy Digital Music Service, Rhapsody, WMP11, Media Monkey, etc) connect your MP3 player to the PC, identify the MP3 player through the media manager and tell it to re-authorize your tracks. Once its finished you'll be able to play your songs for another 30-90 days. You will need to repeat this re-authorizing to continue to play the tracks.
There shouldn't be any driver software on a CD for this player. If you need the Digital Music Store, go here: http://rhapsody-usa.com/best-buy/
If your computer is still able to recognize the player, you can still manually place music files on the player by switching the player to File&Folder mode.
You do not need any specific software to transfer music. You can Drag and Drop files thru Windows XP or Vista, or use Windows Media Player 10 or higher, Rhapsody, or several other music management programs.
The only software on the CD was Rhapsody, or the Best Buy Digital Media Store. Both of which are on the internet.
