Our machine continually prints out YOUR advertisement for "5-in-1 Flexibility Laser MFC-8500." We must have received 30 copies this morning so far. However, when we put a paper in to fax out, the machine only beeps, shows "printing," and generates another printed copy of your ad. We cannot send an outgoing fax from this office. How can we reset the machine or stop if from printing your ad?

To begin troubleshoot,you should set the machine to basic Fax/Tel mode only.
1 If it is not illuminated in green, press (Fax). 2 Press Menu/Set, 2, 1, 2. 3 Press ? or ? to select how long the MFC will ring to alert you that you have a voice call (20, 30, 40 or 70 seconds). Press Menu/Set. 4 Press Stop/Exit. Even if the caller hangs up during the pseudo/double-ringing, the MFC will continue to ring for the set time.
After you confirm your Brother MFC-5440CN is able to receive fax then you can pick one of the 4 modes as describe on the owner manual.

Let me see if I got this right.

The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it.
Cool! So far so good.
Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear.
The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned.
Logical!

However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine.
The scanner has no rol in either situation.

Now I'm lost!

The Drum unit is a consumable.

Buy a new Drum from Staples , Office Max etc and replace it soon.
It will stop and refuse to print when a certain page count is reached.

That type of problem comes from either the drum or the fuser, the best way to check is to unplug the machine while it's printing and see of the shadow is on the paper before the fuser, if it is then you need a new drum, if not the fuser is the culprit.

On the control panel u have to see reports botton after press it have to select user setings!if u don't have this botton in menu u have to find print reports and there again user setings!i gues the print reports in menu are at number 5 !

Try this:

Power off. Hold down the "Menu" button while you power back on.

Machine should say "maintenance"

Press "7", "7"

Slight pause and then machine will print out a report containing lots of counter information.

Press "9", "9" to exit (or switch off/on.

I try the following-
Unplug your fax machine, wait few seconds, replug.
Open the toner door, take out the unit, put it back in.
Restart the computer.
One of the above should work. It helps me.
Check your printing icon as well.

YOU HAVE TO RESET.
TURN OFF THEN PRESS THE STOP /CLEAR BUTTOM THEN TURN ON KEEP PRESS ABOUT 10 SECOND THEN IT WORK .

rest teh machine by shut off the machine and pull out the pluug. wait 2 minutes and plug in the power and turn on the machine.

Try to clean your print head. I have HP all in one laser and doing that helped once when that happened to me.
