Maytag Performa - does anyone have any advise or should I just call the Maytag man?
SOURCE: location of filter on maytag performa heavy duty washing machine
I'm sorry Hilda, most washers that have been put out over the last several years don't have a filter per se. When the wash cycle agitates and lint is released from the clothes, the outside of the basket (the area where you put your clothes) is very sharp where the holes are. Lint collects on these holes as the linty water flows through them. When the rinse and spin cycles dis-lodges it and send it down the drain.
There are some availibkle aftermarket kits availible at some appliance parts stores. They are generics and not produced by the manufactues, but if you wanted a lint catcher n a washer, it would be an option.
I hope this helps with you questions. If you have any other quiestions or concerns, please feel free to write me back.

Check the tag where you find the model and serial number, they often list it there. Your owners manual should tell you as well. You might have to call whirlpool (maytag), I cannot find the capacity listed on the tech info. Good luck.

There is an obvious short circuit going on in the machine. It is like in either of the timer assembly or the motor. You must have a knowledge in troubleshooting electrical circuits in order to find where the short circuit problem is and how to address it. Disconnect the machine from the power source before attempting any troubleshooting and repair work.
The basic troubleshooting you can do is disconnecting the motor to isolate it from the rest of the circuit. Once the motor is isolated, reconnect power then set the machine to spin. The short circuit is in the motor if the tripping of the power source goes out. Otherwise, the short circuit is in the timer assembly or somewhere else in the machine's electrical wiring. Also set the wash to start a regular cycle to check whether the same thing happens as when the machine is set to spin.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Sorry but I do not know your particular machine BUT I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters. The motor is unable to drain all of the water in the allotted time. It is possible that there is less water and more time for the pump to empty on delicates.
Here are my complete, general pre-typed guidance notes for checking filters and motors ;-0)
-------------------------------------
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and held in by a round cover/knob.
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!
Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!
