I just called tech support at 1-800-800-1020 and I was told that the battery on the unit may be so low that it won't power on even with a power source. The unit actually uses more power than it's taking in from the car charger. I was told to plug it into the computer using the USB cable and give it a few hours to replenish the battery. Apparently it should be plugged into the computer ever so often to keep the battery from getting too low.

Saw this somewhere else so thks to poster. Was skeptical but...had same condition, dead no power on with either car charger or USB. Went away for 4 or 5 days and left the unit inside unplugged. Just before tossing it, plugged in the USB and up it came; connected to computer. Allowed it to fully charge. Been working fine for a month now. Orig poster said it's something to do with the battery getting into a wierd state. FWIW, give it a try.

I had the same problem: unit worked fine one day, then suddenly would not power no matter what I did. It would also not be recognized by my computer when plugged in via USB. So I removed the faceplate & tried RESET, but still nothing. On the idea of my battery being low, I tested it (it had 2.7 out of 3.7 V), then tried unplugging the battery plug and plugging in the USB WHILE the battery was unplugged. VIOLA! It came right up. I'll leave it plugged in via USB for a while before reassembling & putting back into the car.

While plugged in, my Garmin c530 will shut down immediately after it says "loading maps". Why is this?

This problem only comes up when the battery is not properly charged, therefore not being able to power up the gps beyond the loading map page. Try to reset the unit by holding the power button for about 15 seconds, it will restart the unit, once it restarts it, check if it will get pass the loading map page. Then you try to back up the software on a computer, format it and restore the software back on the unit. If that does not help, then you carry out the following tests.

Try to charge the gps device for about 2 hours then try to turn it on. If it does not come on, then it means the battery did not get charged. That can be a problem from either the battery or the charger or the charging port.

First test the battery by fixing it in another gps and charging it for about 2 hours then turn it on. If it powers on the gps, then it means the battery is okay, but if it does not turn it on, then it means the battery is weak and cannot hold a charge and the solution is for you to replace the battery.

Next you test the charger by trying it out on another gps device, if it turns it on, then it means the charger is intact but if it does not turn it on, then the fault is from the charger.

Finally, test the gps itself by trying to charge in by connecting it to the computer using the USB cable, then you turn it on, if it does not come on, then it means there is a problem with the connection port or there is an internal problem or something with the unit.

Hope this advice was useful to you.

How do you change lithium ion battery in garmin streetpilot c530

The unit can be opened by removing the frame around the screen. However if you are still under warranty you will void it. The battery is not an easily replaceable one since it is soldered into the unit but if you are hany with a soldering iron it is fairly straightforward. However you have to find the correct battery which you can do with an online search.

Battery on my garmin c510 sat nan wount hold a charge how easy is it to change

Had the same problem. Fixed with a new battery. Takes the same as a Streetpilot c530 and can be purchased anywhere on line. A 10 minute job with a soldering iron.

1. Open face plate. Unscrew 4 screws. Remove battery connector and clip.
2. Unsolder the wires to the two speakers - 4 wires.
3. Remove the sticky wrap from the old battery and place around the new one (to stop it rattling).
4. Solder back the new speaker wires.
5. Plug in battery, reassemble unit and charge Garmin off PC wih usb cable.
Done!

Garmin c530 powers up breifly then shuts down

The problem is with the battery, DC will not fully charge the battery to its required capicty to work. You need an AC charger and to charge it fully ( 10 hrs Max) and then try it. It needs a lot of power to drive the screen and connect to satellites.
Invest in an AC charger and all should work properly

Reset my garmin streetpilot c530gps

There is no way to just "reset" the PIN. If you don't have the correct PIN, you must take the unit to the location at which the PIN was set. Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin.

Garmin c530

According to technical support, the "glitch" has been fixed with the latest web updater on the Garmin site. In the meantime, you will need to leave the unit unplugged for upto 48 hours to allow the battery die and the unit to get out of its "hang up". Once the battery is completely dead, plug the GPS into a computer (USB) and it should come back to life. Then do the update.

Hope this helps.
