How to fix cd/dvd rom error code 39

SOLUTION -
Step 1 - Go to "START MENU" and oper "RUN" and type regedit and hit the enter key

Step 2 - Take registry backup (Registry Backup is must, incase something wrong happens then previous settings can be rever back)

Step 3 - Nowgo to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet >Control > Class > {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Step 4 - You will find this registry keys UpperFilters, LowerFilters, UpperFilters.bak, LowerFilters.bak

Step 5 - If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete.

Step 6 - After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

Step 7 - Reboot your computer

Step 8 - Open My Computer and check if CD or DVD drives is listed.Also openDevice Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code onthe CD or DVD drive is gone.

These are the steps to resolve the issue for the cd/dvd icon missing in the My computer.

Step 1: Please perform manual registry set up by following the below steps:

Please make a full backup of your registry files, particularly user.dat, system.dat, and policy.pol. If you make any incorrect entries, the backed-up registry files can be used to replace the corrupted registry entries.

Follow these steps to backup registry:

1. Click Start, select Run. In the "Open" field type REGEDIT
2. Click OK and click "File" in the menu bar
3. Click "Export" from the drop down menu this will open a new box
4. Click the down arrow beside "Save In" and select "Local Disk (C:)"
5. In the File Name field type BACKUP.REG Verify that under the "Export Range", that the radio button is beside "All"
6. Click Save.

Now make the following changes in registry:

1. Click Start and click Run(XP) or type Click Start and type regedit in search then hit enter(vista, Windows 7).
2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
3. Click the plus (+) sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4. Click the plus (+) sign beside System.
5. Click the plus (+) sign beside Current Control Set.
6. Click the plus (+) sign beside Control.
7. Click the plus (+) sign beside Class.
8. Locate the {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} key and click it.
9. On the File menu, click Export.
10. In the File name box, type savedkey and click Save. It is better
to save the "savedkey" to the desktop.
11. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters (found in right
window pane) and then click Delete on the Edit menu.
12. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next
method.

13. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters (found in right
window pane) and click Delete on the Edit menu.
14. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
15. Quit the Registry Editor.

Step 2: Please uninstall the CD/DVD drive form Device Manager :

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.

2. Double-click the system icon. If the System icon is not found directly under Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon and then click the System icon.
3. The System properties Window opens. You can open the System Properties window directly by pressing the Windows key and Pause/Break key simultaneously.
4. Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
5. Click the plus (+) sign next to the DVD/CD-ROM drives .
6. Right-click the driver listed under this Category and select Uninstall. In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.
7. Repeat step 6 until all entries under the device category are deleted.
8. Restart the computer.

After the notebook is restarted it automatically detects the drive and the drivers are installed.

CAUTION: The registry contains critical information and a
registry backup is essential. An incorrect registry
entry may cause serious system problems or prevent the
computer from starting. You will not be warned of any
incorrect registry entries. If the registry is not
backed up, the only way to recover the system is to
reinstall the operating system. Do not double-click the
Backup.reg file on the desktop unless you intend to undo
the changes you are making to the registry.
1. Click Start and type regedit in the text box.
2. Click "File" in the menu.
3. Click "Export" from the drop-down menu.
4. Click the down arrow beside "Save In" and select Local Disk(C:).
5. Type Backup.reg in the File Name field.
6. Click Save.

3. Click "+" beside CD/DVD Device Category.
4. Right-click the listed CD/DVD/RW and select Uninstall.
5. Restart the system.
Windows will redetect the device on restart and reinstalls the drivers automatically.
